Restaurant Host at Coppola Winery

Position Purpose

The Host is responsible for providing exceptional service to guests, warmly welcoming guests to the restaurant at Francis Coppola Winery, managing reservations and incoming phone calls, and communicating all information effectively to entire Food and Beverage Team.

Functional Responsibility
Essential Duties

  • Checks-in with the Manager/ Supervisor at the start of each shift
  • Prepares for the day to ensure Restaurant Operation is ready for the business levels of that day ten (10) minutes before opening
  • Ensures the Front-of-House looks presentable to the guest and keeps the host stand clean, organized and stocked with menus
  • Attends line ups and is aware of other promotions and events that are going on at the Winery
  • Welcomes guests in a warm and friendly manner and thanks guests when they are departing while inviting them back
  • Responds to guest inquiries and requests in a timely, friendly, and efficient manner
  • Oversees the seating plan and monitors restaurant activity to determine seating and dining flow
  • Reports all issues to the Manager/Supervisor
  • Knows what Rustic Parties are happening in the coming month and knows the required service for each event
  • Communicates all essential operation information to service personnel
  • Schedules phone and online reservations
  • Answers phones within the first three (3) rings
  • Returns all messages and confirms upcoming reservations
  • Builds relationships with the guests as they dine
  • Communicates all guest information to servers before the server greets them at the table
  • Communicates with service staff and managers about guest needs
  • Takes lead in any guest issues that may arise during shift
  • Sets the example of excellence in standards to other staff
  • Delivers beverage and food orders to guests
  • Assists in restaurant maintenance by keeping all areas clean and tidy, and ensures that the department areas are left clean and presentable at the end of each shift
  • Performs opening and closing duties as needed, including completingpaperwork correctly after the end of every shift, and ensuringthat all tasks are carried out before the end of shift
  • Helps fellow team members and other departments wherever necessary
  • Assists servers with side work including, but not limited to, cleaning, stocking, polishing silverware, glassware, folding silverware, bussing, and resetting tables
  • Maintains cleanliness of work areas throughout the day by clearing, collecting, and returning food and beverage items to proper areas
  • Inspects cleanliness and presentation of all china, glass, and silver before use
  • Clears tables and resets them neatly and according to specification

Minimum Requirements

Education and Experience



  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • Minimum 6 months Host experience
  • Restaurant service background and experience


Certificates and Licenses



  • CA Food Handlers Certification
  • TIPS Certification or certified within 90 days of employment


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities



  • Must be able to work weekends and holidays
  • Fluent in English
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work in high paced work environment
  • Ability to multitask
  • Troubleshooting and prioritizing skills
  • Ability to operate Yelp Reservation system with confidence and manage restaurant flow
  • Ability to check Tock Reservations

Working Conditions

  • General restaurant environment
  • Required to wear PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)
  • Indoor and outdoor environment with exposure to the elements/temperature variations
  • Work in close quarters or confined spaces
  • Exposure to varying levels of dust, chemicals, fumes, gases, and noisy equipment

California Pay Transparency Disclaimer: This is aNon-Exemptposition.The pay range for this position is $14.29to $22.36.

Actual placement within range will be contingent upon a number of factors, including but not limited to the candidate's qualifications, education, experience, internal equity andalignmentwith market data.
