Front Desk Assistant - Orthopedic Surgery

Description Under the supervision of the Clinic Manager, you will perform front desk reception duties, patient check in/out for the assigned Orthopaedic Clinic.
The Front Desk Assistant will provide administrative and patient care support to assigned clinic in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. Assist in coordinating patient flow throughout the clinic, from registration to discharge. Work as a member of the Ambulatory Care clinic team to provide smooth outpatient flow resulting in optimum patient satisfaction and clinic operation
At the front desk, you will greet visitors and patients, prepares and updates each patient's chart as needed and for following day and separates physician's charts accordingly, verifies appointment status and necessary information in the computer system and checks appointment notes and benefit collection notes, collects copies of insurance identifications, collects cash and credit card payments including co-pays, completes, copies and totals cash receipts and processes billing charge documents. You will direct patient's destination using clear and concise instructions and escorts patients who may have difficulty with mobility. Responsibility for collecting medical records on a daily basis, tracing and researching the location of the records, and prepares charts for chart review.
Checkout responsibilities are designed to provide clinical care coordination for outpatients seen in the clinic. You will schedule return appointments when indicated, answer patients' questions to ensure compliance with physician orders, schedule x-rays and other diagnostic tests required before return visit to the clinic, review physician discharge orders and physician contact information to ensure patient understands where to go and whom to call after leaving the clinic, and instruct patients on physicians' emergency contact protocols so they know whom to contact in case of an emergency.
In general, you will be is responsible for working with other team members to keep the clinic running efficiently and effectively, handling transactions in a time-sensitive manner. While the job is primarily administrative in functionality, some clinical knowledge is required, specifically relating to medical and insurance terminology.
All employees are required to float or travel to all UCLA Orthopaedic clinics as assigned.
Salary range: $23.49 - $33.34/Hourly
Qualifications * Ability to multi-task using a computer and telephone simultaneously while interpreting the needs of patients.
* Ability to work independently and prioritize assignments to complete work in a timely manner in a busy setting with conflicting demands.
* Excellent speaking and writing skills to clearly and distinctly convey information to individuals at various organizational levels, using proper vocabulary and grammar.
* Minimum of one-year work experience in a customer service environment.
* Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and various software programs.
Preferred:
* Bilingual English/Spanish
* Skill in basic arithmetic to perform cashiering functions and maintain statistics.
* Working knowledge of CPT and ICD-9 codes.
* Working knowledge of medical/Orthopaedic surgery terminology sufficient to understand the patient's complaint and triage the medical problem based on patient description of complaints.
