SUMMARY:

We are looking for talented Registered Nurses that desires an opportunity to work in a highly specialized critical care environment to join our Neuroscience ICU team. The Neuroscience ICU is a critical part of the UMMC's Comprehensive Stroke Center(CSC). One of just three (CSC) in the state, the Neuroscience ICU team works closely with our colleagues from neurosurgery, interventional neuroradiology, stroke neurology, epilepsy, and neuromuscular disease to diagnose and manage the most complicated Neuroscience patients. CSC designation recognizes our commitment to ensuring that both Neurological and Neurosurgical patients receive therapies that are , research-based, cutting -edge and based on the latest scientific evidence.

The Neuroscience ICU is a twenty-two-bed mixed Neurosurgical and Neurological unit that uses the latest advances in treating both surgical and medical patient populations. We use technology to monitor brain structure and function including , continuous EEG monitoring , trailblazing multimodal hemodynamic monitoring, jugular venous oxygen saturation, cerebral oxygenation, measurement of intracranial pressure (ICP), direct measures of regional brain metabolism and oxygenation (Mircrodialysis). Common types of other technology we use consists of invasive and non-invasive Hemodynamic Monitoring, Train of Four, Pupilometers Cooling Devices for Targeted Temperature Management , Continuous Renal Replacement(CRRT) Therapy, and Ultrasounds. Every day the nurses and multidisciplinary team in the Neuroscience ICU fulfill the mission to deliver exemplary, specialized patient care. Neuroscience ICU nurses are dedicated to the highest quality of compassionate care, distinguishing themselves as leaders, educators, care providers and scholars.

Qualifications
  • Graduationfrom an accredited nursing education program approved by the Board ofNursing.
  • BSN preferred.
  • Currently licensed as an RN in thestate of Maryland or compact state RN license.
  • BLS certification required.
