Job Summary:
  • Responsible for safe operation of an asphalt distributor for application of specialized emulsions to roadways.
Main Responsibilities:
  • Embrace the Company's safety culture, actively support all safety initiatives, and adhere to defined accountabilities implemented by the Safety Steering and Continuous Improvement teams
  • Support, promote, and practice the Company core values, vision, and mission; follow code of ethics, workplace conduct, safety, and other established policies
  • Understand and execute paving procedures while following instructions to meet the standards of the project
  • Drive and operate distributor truck equipped with tank to spray asphalt emulsions on road surfaces
  • Monitor flow gages, tachometer and temperature gauge to ensure uniform distribution
  • Set spray bar on manual, automatic, or semi-automatic distributors for applying liquid asphalt and emulsion
  • Responsible for loading truck and emulsion tank; connects hoses from storage tank to truck tank and moves lever to fill pressure tank with asphalt liquid
  • Perform daily pre/post trip inspections with appropriate documentation in compliance with DOT regulations and company guidelines
  • Check fluid levels, tires, lights, and other controls for safe operation
  • Keep accurate log of deliveries and completes required paperwork for billing
  • Ensure product quality to the best of the Driver's ability
  • Perform minor servicing and maintenance of equipment; refer major problems to the supervisor
  • Obey applicable laws and follow dispatch instructions
  • Must keep vehicle in a clean and orderly condition
  • Must clean excess asphalt out of tanks and from spray bars
  • Assist paving crew with other tasks as needed when not operating the distributor truck
Education:
  • Class A CDL with doubles/triples, hazmat and tanker endorsement, and clean driving history
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred
Skills:
  • Two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of training and experience preferred
  • Prior experience operating a commercial vehicle in an industrial, construction, or similar environment preferred
  • Ability to read and understand written and verbal instructions
  • Ability to complete required documentation related to role
Physical Requirements:
  • Wears and maintains personal protective equipment (PPE) as required
  • Occasionally required to lift and /or move up to 50 pounds with or without assistance
  • Regularly required to use hands to move and manipulate objects
  • Regularly required to communicate (talk and hear)
  • Frequently required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
  • Standing/working on feet for long periods, and walking across uneven terrain
  • Frequent exposure to loud noise, and work around heavy machinery and mobile construction equipment
  • Regularly exposed to all outdoor weather conditions, dust, and airborne particles
  • Regularly exposed to fuel, oil, and other chemicals
Compensation and Benefits:

Compensation*: $24.00-$28.00 per hour DOE

*Estimated target starting compensation; actual compensation to be determined based on assessment of an individual's qualifications, education, and experience relevant to the role.

Benefits: All full-time hourly employees are eligible to participate in Simon benefits as defined in plan documents.
