GIS/CAD Technician- FMD Work Arrangement: Requisition Number: 227395 Regular or Temporary: Regular Location: Durham, NC, US, 27710 Personnel Area: CENTRAL ADMIN MANAGEMENT CTR Date: Jun 6, 2023 Duke Facilities Management Department Office of Planning & Design Working Title: GIS/CAD Technician OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY BACKGROUND Duke Office of Planning & Design (OPD) is responsible for the planning and design oversight for all capital projects on campus. The Planning unit provides campus planning, facilities planning, space planning, GIS and CAD services to the university. OPD is within the Facilities Management Department (FMD) that reports to the Vice President for Facilities Services. The GIS/CAD Technician will report to the CAD/GIS Manager. RESPONSIBILITIES GIS Responsibilities: The GIS/CAD Technician is responsible for developing, maintaining and updating various map and database layers in the FMD GIS; perform analysis on GIS data and perform quality control on various GIS layers; perform field checks and verification of GIS features. CAD Responsibilities: The GIS/CAD Technician is responsible for the maintenance of all master MEP as-built documentation for all Duke University buildings identified as a "critical building;" once as-builts are developed: candidate will update and maintain master drawings per building project record documents using AutoCAD software; perform field verifications as necessary. TYPICAL DUTIES GIS Duties * Update and maintain various GIS layers and databases for spatial data across Duke University's campus including trees, landscaping and utility infrastructure using Esri ArcGIS software. * Utilize ArcGIS Pro and similar graphic software to generate maps of campus-wide facilities, grounds and infrastructure. * Maintain databases and spreadsheets associated with collection and generation of field data (including data input, export, and graphical presentation). * Perform quality control review for assigned GIS data layers. * Research historical mapping documents to ensure that GIS utility layers are accurate and up to date. * Assist in the field verification of utilities using GPS units or ArcGIS Field Maps. * Assist in the continued development of University standards to provide guidelines for future project planning, design, construction and maintenance. * Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein. CAD Duties * Perform quality control reviews on MEP as-builts submitted during project closeout for any building defined as "critical." * Utilize AutoCAD to update and maintain all critical building master MEP drawing files. * Update building master CAD files to reflect recent renovations from consultant as-built drawings. PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience * Associates degree or higher in a CAD, GIS or related field * 2-3 years of experience in ESRI ArcGIS and AutoCAD software Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities * Proficient in ESRI ArcGIS Pro and AutoCAD software * Competence with Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Creative Suite * Utilizes AutoCAD and ArcGIS to transfer data between both software packages and generate field data (maps and drawings) of campus-wide facilities, grounds, and infrastructure * Familiarity with basic GIS concepts, including data creation and management, cartography and spatial analysis * Ability to read and interpret technical information from maps, surveys and MEP as-built drawings * Perform fieldwork, documentation, research and drafting tasks as required * Effective verbal and written communication skills * Utilize strong time management skills while tending to multiple projects/tasks at a time * Foster positive customer and stakeholder relationships * Ability to work collaboratively with other staff members, as well as independently Minimum Qualifications Education Work requires communication and analytical skills normally acquired through a 4 year college education.
