Job Summary |
The College of Engineering Business Office is seeking candidates for the position of Financial Specialist (Contract and Grants Specialist I,II,III). The individual in this position provides professional and technical support to Engineering faculty for extramural projects including proposal development assistance, review and approval of proposal support documentation, award review, accounting, and contract and grant management. While contract and grant experience is a plus, prior experience in banking and/or mortgage/loan application review or federal contracting or acquisitions is also a plus.

Essential Functions |
Provide support to the college's academic departments and research centers for extramural programs from federal, state, and private sponsors:
Proposal Development:
- Assist faculty in proposal and budget development and approval (budget development is an essential function.)
- Read and interpret requests for proposals and sponsor guidelines to review proposals for compliance with federal, state, university, cost accounting, and other regulations.
- Coordinate Institutional approvals for proposal submission in a timely manner to meet sponsor deadlines
- Work with other Offices and Units on campus to gather all necessary documentation for proposal submission.
- Work with external intuitions or collaborators to gather subaward documentation for proposal submission.
Award and Post-Award
- Monitor incoming awards and administrative processing for award setup or modifications.
- Serve as liaison between faculty, staff, and sponsored programs office to assist with questions or any documentation needed for award setup.
- Assist Principal investigators with award modifications, budget revisions, no-cost extensions and contract and grant management.

Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications |
Bachelor's Degree in Business, Management, Finance, Accounting, or related field.
Level I - Bachelors degree in discipline appropriate to position with no experience.
Level II - Bachelor's degree in a discipline appropriate to the position plus 2 years of experience in the management of contracts and grants.
Level
III - Bachelor's degree in a discipline appropriate to the position plus 4 years of experience in the management of contracts and grants.
Substitutions allowed for Education:
When a candidate has the required experience, but lacks the required education, they may normally apply additional relevant experience toward the education requirement, at a rate of two (2) years relevant experience per year of required education.

When a candidate has the required education, but lacks the required experience, they may normally apply additional appropriate education toward the experience requirement, at a rate of one (1) year relevant education per year of required experience. |

Experience in Higher Education. Master's degree in in Business Administration, Management, Finance, Accounting, or a relevant field. Knowledge/experience in: reading and interpreting requests for proposals and government grant policies/regulations; contract and grant proposal development; sponsored program administration; the management of research project contracts and grants; working with faculty and personnel within a higher education. Fluency with Microsoft Office applications such as Excel and Word.
