Job Description The Department of Educational Studies at the University of Nevada, Reno seeks an Assistant Professor of Literacy Studies. This is a 9-month, tenure-track position. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, teaching undergraduate, master's, and doctoral students within the Literacy Studies program, pursuing a substantial and relevant program of funded research, advising students, and continuing professional development. The faculty will have a focus on literacy development and instruction in K-12 and clinical settings. Appointment includes online and/or face-to-face teaching of literacy courses in both graduate and undergraduate programs. Faculty will also be expected to contribute to growing and evolving programs in a variety of capacities including, but not limited to, curriculum development and innovation, collaborating with colleagues on programmatic structural revisions and program evaluation, instructional design, research, collaboration with school districts and other community partners, and advising and working closely with undergraduate and graduate students. Grants-in-Aid for Faculty Employees The University is proud to provide a reduced-rate tuition benefit to faculty and qualified dependents. Faculty can take up to six credits per semester at a reduced rate. Dependents of faculty have unlimited credits but, in order to be eligible, children must be unmarried and under the age of 24 and must receive at least 50% of their financial support from the employee and/or employee's spouse or domestic partner. Faculty Dual Career Assistance Program The University of Nevada, Reno recognizes the importance of addressing dual-career couples' professional needs. We offer a dual career assistance program to newly hired faculty spouses/partners that provides resources and assists them to identify career opportunities in Northern Nevada. Department Information The Literacy Studies Program is a key part of the Educational Studies Department at the University of Nevada, Reno. The program supports teacher education and licensure requirements in PK-12 literacy development and instruction. The program also offers an online Master's degree in Reading Curriculum and Instruction, a graduate-level Reading Specialist Certificate, and a doctoral degree in Literacy Studies. Program faculty teach and advise M.Ed. and Ph.D. students in addition to undergraduate students seeking teaching licensure as part of our elementary and secondary teaching programs. Our program is growing rapidly, and we seek a tenure-track assistant professor to help further develop and expand the program.
