Job Summary

Reporting to the Health and Wellness Manager, the Head Athletic Trainer is responsible for the development, organization and administration of the sports medicine program at Sonoma State University. This includes providing a full range of work direction to the other athletic trainers and student assistant athletic trainers, including assigning, monitoring and evaluating work. The Head Athletic Trainer develops and monitors the program budget, tracks inventory and supplies, as well as maintains and monitors the medical records and progress of all student-athletes. This position works closely with the Health and Wellness Manager to partner with medical staff, including the Student Health Center, team doctors and other practitioners to provide rehabilitation possibilities for student athletes. Responsibilities also include being an active participant in providing athletic training services as they relate to the evaluation, prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic related injuries.


Key Qualifications

This position requires the equivalent to a bachelor's degree in athletic training, physical education, kinesiology or related field of study and to three to four years of experience as certified athletic trainer with progressive responsibility, including experience in a lead capacity with some responsibility for program administration or combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities. Experience at the intercollegiate level is preferred. A master's degree in athletic training or related field of study is preferred. The incumbent must possess and maintain a Board of Certification (BOC) certification for Athletic Trainer and current certification, or ability to obtain certification, in cardiopulmonary resuscitation/automated external defibrillator (CPR/AED) and First Aid. Intermediate to advanced proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) required. Knowledge of Google Suite, ARMS, Healthy Roster, and PeopleSoft preferred. The incumbent must successfully complete a pre-placement exam and must possess and/or obtain and thereafter maintain a California Driver's License.


Salary and Benefits

Starting salary placement depends on qualifications and experience and is anticipated to be in the range of $4,865 to $6,650 a month. This is a full time, exempt position, which will lead toward permanent status following the successful completion of a probationary period.

This position is eligible for a broad range of benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurances, retirement (CalPERS), tuition waiver, vacation and sick leave. In addition, 14 paid holidays are offered each year; 13 scheduled on specific days and a Personal Holiday that may be taken any time during the year.
