Job Overview:
IRC in Seattle (IRC-Sea) partners with Harborview Medical Center (HMC) and Northwest Immigrant Rights Project (NWIRP) to provide comprehensive social, physical and mental health services, legal services, as well as housing, systems navigation, and community support to survivors of torture in Washington State. Services will be targeted to communities that experience a high prevalence of torture, primarily refugees, asylees, asylum seekers, unaccompanied children, and trafficking survivors. The ideal candidate should be passionate about serving these communities. The primary role of the Caseworker is to provide comprehensive, trauma-informed and culturally appropriate, client-centered case management services for program participants, including completing eligibility screening and enrollment paperwork, developing service plans, educating about community services, resources, and legal rights, and helping problem solve barriers to access. The Caseworker is also responsible for assisting with administrative tasks including case notes, case file management, and data collection.
Major Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive case management services to survivors of torture. This includes psychoeducation, skill
building, further mental health assessment and connection to employment, housing, legal, medical, social
connections, and more specialized mental health support as needed. - Conduct outreach to case management staff, immigrant-serving agencies, community-based organizations, and others to inform service providers and potential clients of programs and services.
- Complete eligibility screenings for all referral and enrollment paperwork for all eligible Program participants.
- Complete social and legal assessment for all enrolled clients.
- Develop a service and safety plans for Program participants.
- Keep up-to-date information and knowledge about survivors of torture, asylum and other immigration processes.
- Provide comprehensive case management services, including assisting with benefits applications as appropriate. Provide appropriate legal referrals and help identify and arrange social activities in-line with service plans.
- Guide/assist participants to establish contact and receive support services in the community based on their service plan.
- Ensure all services are linguistically appropriate and help advocate with mainstream service providers for linguistically appropriate services.
- Complete case notes in a detailed and timely fashion.
- Implement client satisfaction surveys and client progress surveys at intervals outlined in the grant proposal.
- Ensure all family data is entered into data management system in a timely manner.
- Assist with the preparation of donor funding reports and new funding proposals.
- Assist with advocacy efforts for Survivors of Torture program funding and participate in meetings and activities associated with the funder and the National Consortium of Torture Treatment Providers.
- Participate in program meetings and staff development activities.
- Other related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:
- Social Work Degree or with focus on mental health, or other relevant area strongly preferred, equivalent professional experience will be considered
- Relevant degree or equivalent professional and/or lived clinical and social service experience
- Lived experience as a refugee or immigrant is preferred
- In lieu of lived experience, experience working with refugees and/or immigrants; cross-cultural or overseas experience accepted
- 2+ years of related work experience; 1 year minimum working with victims of crime or other vulnerable populations
- Strong understanding of trauma informed care and commitment to client centered, strengths based, and culturally appropriate services
- Ability to work independently and as a team member in a fast-paced, cross-cultural environment
- Ability to follow strict guidelines of client confidentiality and safeguarding
- Excellent problem-solving skills combined with the proven ability to multi-task, prioritize duties and manage time effectively
- Demonstrated success working and communicating effectively across lines of difference with respect to race, gender, ethnicity, language, religion and age
- Excellent written and spoken English skills; proficiency in languages(s) spoken by client group preferred, such as Spanish, French, Kiswahili, Kinyarwanda, and Dari/Pashto
- Commitment to anti-racism and ongoing learning
Working Environment:
Standard hybrid/remote/office setting combined with travel and responsibilities performed in and around the service delivery area.
Posted pay ranges apply to US-based candidates. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget. Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirements.
