Assistant Director of Engineering

Position Purpose

This position supports the Director of Engineering and Security in maintaining the property assets to the highest level by providing direction and supervision to the staff, monitoring various aspects of the day to day operations, preparing reports related to department operations, assisting in staffing, training, evaluating performance

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Maintains engineering and security department staffing levels so as to provide for optimal performance

  • Coordinate the activities of all Security department personnel, ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local laws and Loews Hotels company policies and safety standards

  • Ensure delivery of quality security services to guests and hotel staff in a friendly and professional manner

  • Direct and maintain continuous physical property rounds by Security personnel

  • Assist in setting and maintain schedules for all inspections, including the Fire Equipment Survey, Safety Checklist, and Security Inspection of Guest rooms

  • Inform General Manager and Hotel Manager of all matters concerning safety and security

  • Assist and respond to all general liability insurance claims

  • Assist in developing and maintain a detailed emergency evacuation plan and conduct monthly drills, specifically concerning fire procedures

  • Maintain adherence to Blood borne Pathogen Exposure Control program. Train personnel regarding policies and procedures. Have appropriate equipment located at hotel

  • Conduct an annual inventory of all chemicals used by all departments in the hotel

  • Maintain and update master files of all MSDS information for all hotel departments. Ensure that all departments have correct information accessible to staff

  • Conduct in-service training, including distribution of information pertaining to all matters of general interest and policy

  • Coordinate with Training Manager to conduct First Aid, CPR, fire extinguisher, and safety orientation training for hotel employees

  • First-aid training of all Security officers

  • Develop cooperative working relationships between Security/Safety staff and other hotel employees and outside law enforcement personnel to promote timely and effective exchange of information

  • Develop and supervise key control program, including master key distribution list, control of key blank purchases, and key production

  • Develop and maintain all alarm systems, including cashier's hold-up button, accountant's safe, and fire alarms

  • Maintain CCTV security system and radio and paging equipment

  • Develop and manage secure, confidential record system that will allow immediate retrieval of incident reports, criminal trespass notices, photographs, and similar information

  • Maintain comparison statistics:

    • Room losses

    • Total number of incidents

    • Number of employee accidents and resultant cost in terms of

    • money and lost work

  • Number of guest accidents

  • Provide an up-to-date list of persons authorized to issue package passes (along with confidential copies of their signatures)

  • Coordinate random bag and locker checks as necessary

  • Review/maintain accurate daily payroll records/reports, maintaining conformity to established budgetary guidelines

  • Coordinate all training programs for department personnel

  • Provides supervision/support to all Engineering and Security department staff on a daily basis

  • Ensures maintenance shop adherence to cleanliness and safety standards

  • Maintains storeroom and maintenance shop inventories

  • Attends all required hotel meetings to keep abreast of in-house activities/promotions and events; maintain communications with other departments within the hotel

  • Assist Director of Engineering in monitoring energy consumption, maintaining equipment and supply inventories

  • Assists Supervisors in communicating Maintenance Request needs to engineers as needed

  • Assists Director of Engineering with ADA compliance

  • Assists Supervisors in communicating Maintenance Request needs to engineers as needed Administers; key control system, tool control procedures, credit card control

  • Works with Security Department with regard to all repairs and maintenance of electronic/hard key locking systems to insure secure nature of all materials, supplies and information drawings

  • Performs periodic inspections of all property assets to ensure maintenance to standard

  • Interviews, selects, trains, appraises, coaches, counsels and disciplines departmental personnel according to Loews standards.

  • Follows New Hire Training and ongoing Star Service Competency program in accordance with hotel policy

  • Develops/approves departmental schedules and in absence of DOE budget and forecast

  • Other duties as assigned.

Specific Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation:

Required

  • Extensive knowledge of plumbing, electrical, HVAC, refrigeration, and life safety operating systems

  • Ability to read, interpret and maintain "as built status" of all physical plant architectural

  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations, National, State and Local Building regulations and codes, equipment operation and preventive maintenance procedures, record keeping requirement associated with above

  • Effective management, leadership, organizational and communications skills

  • Knowledge of computer based maintenance management systems such as: OmniComp, Espresso, Wintfax

  • Ability to work flexible schedule to include weekends and holidays

Salary for this position, based on experience is $80,000 - $90,000 annually

Qualification Standards

Education: College degree preferred

Experience: Three to five years as an Assistant Chief or Chief of Engineering in a Hospitality environment preferred

Licenses or Certificates: FDNY - Fire Safety Director Certification

Salary range for this position, based on experience, is $68,000.00 to $85,000.00.
