Position Description

We are currently looking for a Senior Energy Engineer in Las Vegas, NV. Our Project Development Team is committed to delivering creative facility and energy solutions to our communities. We are industry leaders who develop energy and engineering solutions that enable our clients to reduce their energy and operational expenses. You will work alongside our Business Development Team to develop solutions that solve our clients' facilities, operational, and financial challenges. You will then champion those solutions through our design process by leading the internal team of engineers, drafters, construction professionals, and commissioning agents to deliver projects that achieve the shared visions of Willdan and the communities we serve.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Willingness to familiarize yourself with the company's vision and mission, seeking to accomplish set goals and objectives
  • Supervise, train, and mentor one or more Energy Engineers
  • Perform preliminary and conceptual engineering tasks and important preliminary engineering work such as energy analysis and modeling efficiently and accurately
  • Support business development activities which lead to award of the contract including client relationship development, project-specific positioning activities, teaming arrangements, proposal preparation support, oral presentation support, and contract negotiation
  • Coordinate with pre-construction team to obtain project development budget estimates for Preliminary Audit & IGA Stages
  • Clearly set expectations with business development team on deliverables and manages the project development team to meet these expectations in an efficient manner
  • Manage the use of Project Management tools and tasks for anything related to Energy Engineering
  • Track deadlines, targets, and budgets on projects in the Preliminary and Design stages
  • Extract engineering information from drawings. Supports engineering computations, material quantity takeoffs, estimates, surveys, and designs
  • Support construction management & commissioning teams by providing data required to estimate and qualify constructability and costs
  • Coordinate with internal and external designers on a variety of design deliverables such as drawings, specifications, and other materials suitable for RFP, procurement, and construction purposes
  • Manage overall deliverables and development schedule
  • Maintain a pool of partners and design consultants for project development
  • Research, study, and propose use of new and emerging technologies to be used in the development of new projects
  • Enforce the proper use of development engineering criteria and maintains high quality standards of project development deliverables
  • Ensure that technical issues are conducted within the framework of company policies and procedures
  • Manage client expectations throughout the preliminary and design phases and coordinates with the design, pre-construction, construction, and commissioning teams to ensure that the design, procurement, and commissioning strategies limit scope creep and are capable of profitably delivering the required scope within the client's budget
  • Evaluate designs for performance and conformance with the original project intent and client expectations
  • Support the design team in the preparation of layouts, drawings, specifications, bills of material, and equipment selections by providing needed data and guidance about the scope and original project intent
  • Conduct duties consistent with the Company's vision and purpose, quality objectives, and defined policies and procedures
  • Support technical bid analyses and construction administration tasks such as answering Requests for Information and providing data and documentation needed for project close-out
  • Coordinate with the design team on the development of project specifications, data sheets, and other construction documents to ensure conformance with the original project intent and client expectations
  • Provide general guidance to CAD Designer/Drafters, Designers, and Energy Engineers working on the same project

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical, or a related field of engineering or architecture is required
  • Professional Engineering license or EIT is preferred
  • Additional project development, engineering, and energy related professional certifications are a plus (e.g. LEED-AP, CEM, ASHRAE, DBIA, etc.)
  • Ten or more years of progressive project development experience
  • Experience in Public Sector energy engineering with Cities, Counties and School Districts preferred
  • Excellent initiative, and interpersonal communications skills required
  • Demonstrates engineering and analytical acumen to develop complex solutions and build credibility
  • Extensive experience managing complex projects and interdisciplinary teams of professionals, Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred
  • Moderate regional travel required with possibility of limited national travel; overnight travel about 15%
