The Opportunity

The School of Modeling, Simulation, and Training (SMST) at the University of Central Florida (UCF) is seeking applicants for a full-time, 12-month, non-tenure earning faculty administrator and researcher position which reports to the director of SMST. The selected candidate will: 1) support major strategic growth in Modeling and Simulation (M&S) at the Institute for Simulation and Training as a regional economic driver, and 2) serve as a convener for synergistic research efforts in collaboration with other principal investigators. The ideal candidate will have an extensive background in modeling and simulation as well as a history of inter-disciplinary research and collaboration.

Responsibilities of the position include:

  • Conducting applied research, technology maturation and prototyping efforts, and systems management.

  • Engaging existing research sponsors and stakeholders on current and prospective projects.

  • Developing and facilitating targeted proposals for research program contracts and grants, endowments, and in-kind support.

  • Facilitating interdisciplinary collaboration between multiple principal investigators, research/technology development teams, and colleges/departments on large-scale research projects and proposals.

  • Directing a modeling and simulation research innovation effort to advance next generation applied R&D and economic development activities.

  • Developing and maintaining strategic engagements with government, industry, academic, and community partners (e.g., joint opportunities development, in-kind support, workforce development initiatives, and service opportunities).

  • Recruiting and mentoring research and technology development team members (faculty, staff, and students).

  • Facilitating alignment of external communications and marketing within the applied research program.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree from an accredited institution in Engineering, Computer Science, M&S, or a related discipline is required at the time of application.

  • Prior research administrative leadership experience at a very high research activity (R1 or R2) university.

  • A demonstrated record of building relationships with government and industry sponsors to ensure external funding and strategic partnerships that contribute to the goals and missions of the university.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of professional experience in the research program focus area.

  • Ability to obtain secret or top-secret clearance.

  • Experience in DOD or other federal lab leadership.
