Job Summary

Manage all daily aspects of the sound system for the VanTrease Performing Arts Center for Education(PACE) and Studio Theatre, coordinating the technical elements for all events. Responsible for the load-in, strike, live mixing/recording, board operation, and system maintenance of PACE shows. Must have recording experience, rigging knowledge, and the ability to work as a team member. The Audio Director is responsible for supporting the artistic vision of the directors and designers as it relates to the advancement, budgeting, and realization of sound mixing, reinforcement and recording.

This is a Safety Sensitive position pursuant to Oklahoma Statute


Essential Duties

Design sound and provide paperwork for Signature Symphony, student ensembles, and other groups as needed.

Run and maintain sound design after show opening including troubleshooting, speaker check, preparation for upcoming shows, general clean up, and maintenance and equipment repair.

Participate in all production meetings, show load-in and strikes, and technical rehearsals in the PACE, Studio Theatre, and supporting facilities (with the expectation of working evenings and weekends).

Provide audio design, execution, and professional support for all events in the PACE and ancillary spaces including microphones type determination, speaker placement, outboard equipment including compressors, limiters, effects processing, console set-up and operation.

Stay current on understanding and maintenance of theatrical sound related gear including: Q-Lab, sound consoles, digital audio consoles (including Yamaha CL5), DSP's, Dante networks, Soundweb, communication systems, and video systems. Stay up to date on best practices for rigging and safety.

Maintain a current and accurate sound equipment list providing production manager a yearly update recommending repairs, replacement, and removal. Solder and repair audio and video gear. Specify audio equipment purchases as needed and collect initial bids from vendors.

Use creative problem solving and current best practices to for theatrical solutions as needed.

Supervise, train, and mentor student and part-time crew, including providing safety/use training related to all equipment of the PACE.

Work independently and/or collaboratively as appropriate in a fast paced rapidly changing environment to achieve goals.


Minimum Qualifications

Require Bachelor's degree in Theatre Design, Sound, or a related field. Degree requirement maybe substituted with equivalent work experience.

Require 5 years of experience mixing, recording and reinforcement of theatrical sound at a professional or educational performing arts center.

Require demonstrated ability to read, interpret, and implement from designer drawings with experience in mixing large scale musicals, and orchestras.

Require demonstrated working understanding of the operations of carpentry/rigging, lighting,projection, props and costumes.

Require demonstrated understanding of sound signal flow, troubleshooting and equipment repairs skills.

Require demonstrated significant experience with and detailed knowledge of current audio technology, wireless microphone setup/operation, and communication systems.

Require demonstrated ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment.

Ability to work flexible hours.

Ability to lift at least 50 pounds.

Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Suite, Final Cut Pro, VertorWorks, Lightwright,AutoCAD, QLab, and other theater related software.


Preferred Qualifications

Experience with lighting design and light board operation.<
