General Description of Position:



The Assistant Director of Competitive Sports will lead and manage the administration and operation of the competitive sports program, consisting of men's, women's, co-rec, and faculty/staff intramural and sport club programs. The Assistant Director will be responsible for the overall programming, scheduling, planning, risk management, personnel management, facility management, fiscal management, assessment and marketing/promotions of the Competitive Sports Program. The Assistant Director will serve to support student health and well-being as a valuable member of the Kansas State Student Life.

Job Description:



SPECIFIC DUTIES WILL INCLUDE:

Leadership



  • Develop and execute strategic plans and vision for Competitive Sports program
  • Produce reports and statistical compilations of program activities
  • Manage operating budget of Competitive Sports program


Intramural Sports



  • Schedule and direct programming for individual sports
  • Train, develop, and evaluate officials
  • Hire, supervise, train, and evaluate intramural supervisors
  • Work with IM Leagues software system in the operation and betterment of program
  • Manage payroll for intramurals
  • Maintain records with regards to participation numbers, results, risk management information, payroll information, and year-end statistical reviews.
  • Serve as advisor to intramural rules and protest committee


Extramural Sports



  • Manage departmental involvement in extramural activities, including team and student official participation
  • Represent the department and university at extramural tournaments and events


Sport Clubs



  • Lead and direct the overall administration and management of the sport club program
  • Serve as facilitator, leader, and resource for sport club leaders and be available to assist student representatives with club business
  • Serve as an advocate of sport clubs for the department, campus and city community
  • Provide timely and responsive communication to sport club leaders
  • Advise the Sport Club Council
  • Provide training for club officers, with specific emphasis on teaching them how to build and lead sustainable organizations that effectively transition officers semester to semester
  • Produce and update sport club handbook serving as the guide to policies and procedures
  • Advise sport clubs with budget, club expenditures, and fiscal adherence to university and state policies
  • Guide sport clubs through the annual allocations process
  • Maintain sport club equipment inventory
  • Utilize OrgCentral online program in collaboration with the sport club officers
  • Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate sport club supervisors and schedule them for on campus club events.
  • Schedule and coordinate use of indoor and outdoor facilities for sport club usage
  • Maintain records of club data including membership, financial records, risk management forms, participation statistics, and end of year reports


Student Development



  • Assist in the development and management of the department wide student employee leadership and development program, which includes the student NIRSA club, Rec Ambassadors, departmental internships, and special events to enable and further the professional experiences of our student staff.


General



  • Coordinate field, facility, and equipment preparation and maintenance
  • Coordinate marketing and promotions for Competitive Sports program in cooperation with department marketing staff
  • Develop and continue to improve and maintain customer service practices within the program

  • Will embrace individual uniqueness, foster a culture of inclusive excellence that supports both broad and specific diversity initiatives.
  • Will advance an advocate for holistic well-being and lifelong movement on an active healthy campus.
  • This person will cultivate a culture of innovation and dedication to effective student development outcomes.


ADDITIONAL:



  • Will attend and make reports to the Recreational Services Council.
  • Will assist in the staff education and preparation in CPR, AED, and First Aid training.

    • Training will include ensuring all staff meets the requirements for BBP, Adult/Pediatric CPR, First Aid, and AED.
    • Will assist the Assistant Director of Competitive Sports with all aspects of risk management.


  • Will serve the University and Department via committees including the Recreational Services Council and others as needed.
  • Will serve as advisor to the Intramural Rules and Protest Committee
  • All areas will include some evening and weekend supervision and responsibilities.
  • Will collaborate with other Assistant Directors/Coordinators on the development, implementation, and assessment of all student development initiatives.
  • Will have no outside duties or jobs that directly interfere with these responsibilities.
  • Will perform other duties as assigned by the Director.



Required Education, Experience & Qualifications:




  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution with 3 to 5 years of related work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and work experience



Preferred Education & Experience:



Education:



  • Master's Degree in Recreation, Recreational Administration, Physical Education, Sports Administration or a Related Field


Experience:



  • Two or more years of supervisory experience in recreational sports programming with major emphasis in facility and personnel management
  • Leadership and supervisory skills to hire, train, motivate, supervise and evaluate employees as demonstrated through past supervision of staff.
  • Ability and knowledge to positively manage participant-program conflicts, risk management and emergency response
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to work evening and weekend hours
  • Current certifications with American Red Cross
  • AED/CPR/First Aid Instructor Level certification

$46,555 to $55,000 plus benefits
