POSITION PURPOSE

Under the general direction of the Maintenance Manager this position is a journey level classification requiring the incumbent to be fully competent to install, maintain, troubleshoot, document and repair a wide variety of industrial instrumentation, electronic monitoring, metering, controlling and signaling devices used in the wastewater industry. Must have a thorough knowledge of control systems and components including Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) and Programmable Logic Control (PLC) software and hardware. The work includes the troubleshooting and repair of electrical/mechanical equipment, and the incumbent is expected to often work independently due to the diverse nature of the work. In addition, this position requires that the individual work closely with both maintenance and plant operators to identify problem areas and make repairs to ensure continuous operations. Position-is- responsible for carrying-out-tasks and activities consistent with instrumentation and electrician work.

PRIMARY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Employee is responsible for all project I&C work, which will include: install, calibrate, test, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair electrical, digital, electro- mechanical and mechanical equipment, communications control, industrial networks SCADA instrumentation and PLCs.
  • Employee troubleshoots, installs and calibrates microprocessor based instrumentation and control system components,
  • Develop, maintain and upgrade various real time process control computer systems, including database management, networking, programming and configuring Programmable Logic Control Systems.
  • Independently-diagnose equipment control problems and implement preventive and corrective repairs with only general direction in a safe, efficient-and-compliant manner.
  • Provide guidance, training, and technical assistance to maintenance personnel and plant operators.
  • Plan, organize, prioritize, schedule and document work tasks.
  • Perform mechanical predictive equipment-maintenance.
  • Support the Maintenance Manager and others in continuously maintaining an accurate and updated Computerized Maintenance Management System.
  • Maintains the plant and work areas in a clean and orderly fashion.
  • Completes miscellaneous tasks as assigned by superiors or his/her designee.
  • Participates in continuing education and training

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Subject to outdoor/indoor elements and to temperature changes, hot/cold, walking, standing, lifting, bending. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs

Qualifications

Education / Experience / Background

  • High School diploma or GED and experience in related field.
  • 3-5 years as an electrician or Instrumentation tech, or equivalent year for year Job experience.
  • Experience with Installs, maintaining, repairs, overhauls, calibration and testing a wide variety of industrial instrumentation that record, indicate, control and regulate level, flow pressure, temperature, position and residual analysis.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Troubleshoots telemetry and process controller hardware and has a functional knowledge of the operation of the telemetry system software and hardware.
  • Makes periodic preventative maintenance inspections of all metering control instruments, diagnoses existing or potential trouble, cleans, lubricates, calibrates and adjusts as conditions indicate.
  • Lays out Diagnostic skills should include test equipment (voltage/amp- meter, frequency signal generators.
  • Communication Skills, Intermediate-computer skills
  • Ability to Read and interpret wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings, process control diagrams, and specifications in making installations or performing maintenance and repair work.
  • Keeps accurate records: makes verbal and written reports of work performed. May make estimates of labor, materials, and supplies as necessary for the performance of specific assignments.
  • Performs other duties as assigned. This position will require knowledge of hand tool use, predictive, preventive and corrective maintenance.
  • Considerable knowledge of the standards, practices, methods, materials, tools, and measuring instruments used in the wastewater industry. Considerable knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions peculiar to this work.
  • Knowledge of electronic theory, data communication, industrial Ethernet, SCADA systems and computers. Knowledge of the principals of process control, electronics, electrical equipment, programmable controllers and related computers.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to diagnose electronic malfunctions and defects and determine parts, adjustments and repairs necessary for proper operation.

Required Certification / Licenses / Training

  • Possess and Maintain a Massachusetts State Driver's License
  • Massachusetts Journeyman Electrical License
