This role will be located on-site in Sterling, VA or Alpharetta, GA and will include some travel to our data center campus sites.

Reliability Engineering Department

The Reliability Engineering Team ensures the overall health of critical systems across Vantage global facilities. For each of the major systems Electrical, Mechanical, and Controls, the Reliability Engineering team ensures success in the commissioning stages of new construction, evaluating and improving the reliability and performance of existing critical infrastructure, sustaining equipment operational availability through maintenance programming, providing technical support to the Site Operations Teams, and providing systems reliability and maintainability feedback to the Design Engineering teams for future design considerations.

Position Description

The Technical Writer for Reliability Engineering role encompasses both creating and organizing technical documentation and information. The duties include working closely with subject matter experts to gather information and build accurate, clear, and concise documentation that meets industry standards. This role entails creating and reviewing standard operating procedures, user guides, technical manuals and other documentation, as well as researching, organizing and cataloging technical information resources. This role requires a mix of skills and knowledge of technical writing and librarianship, the ability to build clear and accurate documentation while also able to handle and organize technical information. The ideal candidate has knowledge of electrical and mechanical engineering concepts with demonstrably strong communication and writing skills along with the ability to gauge audience needs and adjust tone and technical terms to ensure audience understanding.

Essential Job Functions

  • Work closely with Subject Matter Experts, Engineers, Analysts, Developers, and other team members to gather key document needs and requirements.

  • Draft Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Method of Procedures (MOP) based on Industry Standards, Manufacturers recommended requirements, and Site Operations standard processes.

  • Ensure documents including Sequence of Operations, Drawings, User Manuals are up to date and readily available.

  • Ensure Documents are accurately cataloged with naming hierarchy and metadata in appropriate libraries and are accessible to relevant Operations and Engineering groups.

  • Assist Technical Training Teams with training document preparation and presentations.

  • Mange the flow of technical information between Teams and Departments by controlling document transmittals and ensuring the completeness of information deliverables.

Duties

  • Write, edit, proofread, prepare, review, revise, maintain, and catalog technical documentation for Operations and Engineering teams.

  • Draft Operations Policy Documents and Manage Revisions, Periodic Document Reviews and Updates

  • Handle technical document libraries and ensure all documents are easily accessible to relevant Teams and groups.

  • Receive and accept Information Transmittals on behalf of Site Operations Teams and perform review of Site Turnover documentation from Construction teams to ensure information is accurately cataloged and stored.

  • Route documentation to accurate approvers and see documentation through the approval pipeline.

  • Work closely with the Asset Management team and ensure all Maintenance related documents are linked and available in Computerized Maintenance Management Systems and Asset Management Systems.

  • Work with CMMS Asset Manager to ensure all equipment and warranty information is assembled and available in CMMS linked libraries.

  • Publish and maintain templates for written documentation for SOP's and MOP's including Guides on how to draft SOPs and MOPs.

  • Work with Operations teams to ensure all SOPs and MOPs are technically sound and ready for use.

  • Work multi-functionally with SharePoint and information teams to ensure uniformity across our technical libraries and ensure links from various software tools to shared information sources remain intact and up to date.

  • Work closely with Subject Matter Experts (SME's) to ensure documentation is accurate and up to date.

  • Lead the documentation process from start to finish, including version control and document management.

  • Draft and Distribute Site Service Bulletins, technical documents, and information as needed to ensure team awareness and verify that information has been received by intended recipient.

  • Use graphic design software to build visual aids, such as diagrams and charts, to improve the understanding of technical concepts and prepare reports.

  • Participate in creation of technical meeting agendas, meeting minutes, presentations, schedules.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field, or equivalent work experience

  • Experience in Critical Facilities and with an understanding of Power, Cooling, and Control Systems

  • Ability to read schematics, drawings, and equipment specification documents.

  • 2-4 years of experience in technical writing, product documentation, or online publishing

  • Sophisticated skills in Microsoft Office 360Suite - Excel, Word, Power Point, Project, and Visio

  • Proficient in SharePoint, Smartsheet's, and Adobe Acrobat Pro

  • Outstanding analytical, conceptual thinking, and decision-making skills

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Fluent in English required.

  • Proficiency in Canadian French highly valued.
