Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Clinical Director or Principal Investigator (PI), the Assistant Clinical Research Coordinator (aCRC) will perform entry-level duties for the Care Ecosystem study; they will participate in training and help with study coordination; data collection and management; intervention implementation; and quality control and regulatory procedures.

The Care Ecosystem: The Care Ecosystem study is currently funded by a grant from the National Institutes on Aging and is designed to test the impact of a telephone-based support, education, and care coordination intervention for patients with dementia and their caregivers. Under supervision of the Clinical Director, the incumbent will collaborate with participants and an interdisciplinary team to deliver a protocolized intervention designed to improve the health and wellbeing of patients with dementia and their caregivers in an accessible, economically sustainable and scalable way. They may interface with a network of clinical research partners across UCSF and diverse health systems nationwide that work together to build evidence aimed at improving dementia care through pragmatic clinical trials. The Assistant CRC will work in collaboration to help prepare protocols for study initiation; help design flow sheets, data forms and source documents; gather and interpret medical data regarding clinical trial participants; may apply understanding of inclusion/exclusion eligibility criteria for protocols; help recruit, enroll, register, schedule and retain study participants; record protocol specific interventions; assist research personnel to keep patients on study schedules; complete study forms to submit to sponsors and/or appropriate agencies; collect, enter and clean data into study databases, maintain data quality; assist with data analysis; assist with preparation of reports and tables; attend team meetings; and perform other duties as assigned.

Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.

For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

For almost 20 years, the UCSF Memory and Aging Center (MAC) has been providing model care for patients and their families, finding innovative ways to understand and discover treatments for neurodegenerative diseases, and reaching out to the wider community to raise awareness about these diseases of aging. Required Qualifications


  • HS graduation and sufficient experience and demonstrated skills to successfully perform the assigned duties and responsibilities; and/or equivalent experience/training
  • Excellent verbal and written communications and presentation skills; excellent organizational skills; and excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively in a diverse team.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Windows/Mac
  • Database management skills (Excel, REDCap)
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-based environment; project management and coordination skills; ability to prioritize tasks and meet multiple deadlines on concurrent projects.
  • Ability to establish cooperative working relationships with patients, co-workers, & physicians.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Fluent in Spanish, Cantonese, or Mandarin
  • Demonstrated proficiency with medical terminology
  • Experience working with patients or study participants
  • Ability to abstract data from medical records and transfer it to data collection forms or directly into databases
  • Experience with writing, editing, and formatting reports, manuscripts, or educational materials.
  • Interest and/or experience working with older adults, people with neurodegenerative diseases, and/or caregivers
  • Experience with REDCap, EPIC, EndNote
  • Familiarity with HIPAA and CHR / IRB.
