What You'll Do in This Position

This position may be eligible for varying levels of telework. Amount of telework, if any, will be determined by job scope, candidate location, and other factors related to the position.

SRNS is seeking to hire Fire Protection Design Engineers with direct experience in fire alarm and detection system design that includes production of drawings, calculations, specifications, ability to support construction, startup, ability to review vendor drawings and submittals, and provide support to various projects at SRS.

Primary responsibilities include engineering task analysis, walk-downs, design development and generation of design output documents including but not limited to: Location Plans, Connection Diagrams, Conduit / Block Diagrams, Logic Diagrams, Panel Detail Drawings, Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams, and Battery Loading Calculations in accordance with national consensus codes and standards.

Provide technical support to site construction forces, start-up & testing, suppliers or subcontract personnel. Prepare Data Sheets, Statements of Work, Procurement Specifications, Design Build Specifications, and Purchase Requisitions.

General knowledge of electrical/control systems, connection diagrams, layout plans, logic diagrams, panel layout details, P&ID's, and battery loading calculations is required. Ability to use Windows Microsoft Office applications is required. Must be able to walk down systems in the field.

Scope technical tasks and develop creative solutions to assigned problems. Begin using SRNS systems and meeting SRNS requirements with minimal supervisory guidance. Accepts complex tasks and receives minimal guidance from senior professionals. Incorporate conventional engineering or scientific practices and a variety of complex features such as complicated technical requirements, application of new or special materials or processes and difficult coordination or oversight requirements into problem solving and program planning. Provide limited guidance and direction to less senior engineering professionals. Carry out development and qualification programs on tasks concurrent with other phases such as design and fabrication to better evaluate and minimize future problems. Develop alternate solutions to existing problems. Perform all detail work necessary to determine best solutions. Evaluate proposals and make recommendations based on proposed projects/tasks in area of assignment. May delegate portions of the detail work to less senior personnel. Prepare costs and schedule estimates on proposed projects/tasks in assigned area. Demonstrate cost and schedule consciousness through timely completion of assigned tasks and projects. Prepare manuals and other documents supporting or publicizing the technical effort. Demonstrate creative ability through medium of patent disclosures, problem solving, engineering reports, technical papers and articles.

Qualifications We Require

Bachelor degree in applicable science or engineering discipline

Other Qualifications

Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, if required.

Qualifications We Desire

Degrees/Disciplines: Fire Protection Engineering or Registered Professional Engineer in Fire Protection. Mechanical Engineering with Fire Protection experience.

Graduate of an accredited fire protection engineering curriculum OR Registered Professional Engineer in Fire Protection OR Full member in the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE) OR NICET Level III certification in the applicable subfield is preferred.

Previous SRS Design Engineering or DOE facility experience is preferred.

Demonstrate Fire Protection design experience in the nuclear or chemical process industry and possess a working knowledge of Codes and Standards applicable to fire detection and alarm systems, such as NFPA 70, NFPA 72, NFPA 90A, NFPA 101, IBC, and various other ISA and IEEE standards.

Proficient using 2D Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) software, MicroStation is a plus.

Understands and applies advanced knowledge of discipline's standard theories, concepts, principles and techniques

Working knowledge of standard engineering/scientific practices and applications
