What You'll Do in This Position

This position may be eligible for varying levels of telework. Amount of telework, if any, will be determined by job scope, candidate location, and other factors related to the position.

Seeking to hire Senior Fire Protection Engineers. These engineers will report to the SRNS Fire Protection Engineering Organization and will be responsible for fire protection related compliance within various facilities at SRS.

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
* Conducting fire hazard analysis
* Conducting NFPA/ICC code reviews
* Specifying technical aspects of fire protection systems to ensure Life Safety compliance
* Performing building walkdowns to assess for compliance according to Department of Energy standards
* Mentoring and providing direction to less senior engineers within the organization
* Scoping technical tasks and develop creative solutions to assigned problems.
* Utilizing SRNS systems and meeting SRNS requirements with minimal supervisory guidance.
* Accepting complex tasks and receiving minimal guidance from senior professionals.
* Incorporating conventional engineering or scientific practices and a variety of complex features such as complicated technical requirements, application of new or special materials or processes and difficult coordination or oversight requirements into problem solving and program planning.
* Providing limited guidance and direction to less senior engineering professionals.
* Carrying out development and qualification programs on tasks concurrent with other phases such as design and fabrication to better evaluate and minimize future problems.
* Developing alternate solutions to existing problems.
* Performing all detail work necessary to determine best solutions.
* Evaluating proposals and make recommendations based on proposed projects/tasks in area of assignment.
* Delegating and managing portions of the detail work to less senior personnel
* Preparing costs and schedule estimates on proposed projects/tasks in assigned area.
* Demonstrating cost and schedule consciousness through timely completion of assigned tasks and projects.
* Preparing manuals and other documents supporting or publicizing the technical effort.
* Demonstrating creative ability through medium of patent disclosures, problem solving, engineering reports, technical papers and articles.

Senior Fire Protection Engineers should be able to:
* Build and maintain relationships with coworkers outside the field of engineering, this may include operations, maintenance, construction, nuclear and criticality safety, etc.
* Perform tasks both individually and as members of cross-functional teams
* Lead cross-functional teams and drive the work tasks to completion
* Manage time effectively and balance working on multiple projects, technical documents, etc. concurrently
* Communicate complex topics in language fitting for the audience
* Originate and edit written technical documents
* Provide direction and guidance to less senior fire protection engineers

Scope technical tasks and develop creative solutions to assigned problems. Begin using SRNS systems and meeting SRNS requirements with minimal supervisory guidance. Qualifications We Require

Bachelor degree in applicable science or engineering discipline

Other Qualifications

Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, if required.

Qualified Fire Protection Engineer.

Qualifications We Desire

Degree in Electrical Engineering, Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Civil Engineering.

Understands and applies advanced knowledge of discipline's standard theories, concepts, principles and techniques within Fire Protection Engineering.

Working knowledge of standard engineering/scientific practices and applications
