Willdan Energy Solutions (WES) is seeking a talented individual to fill the role of Senior Energy Engineer in our New York City\ offices. WES is fast-growing company with many projects focused on energy efficiency; mechanical, electrical and IT infrastructure; sustainability; and State and utility-run incentives. Our energy efficiency services are a fast-growing specialty within our broader energy consulting practice.

The Senior Energy Engineer will be a key member of the Northeast Region Engineering Team and will be involved all aspects of our current energy efficiency programs. The ideal candidate is a mechanical or electrical engineer with professional interest and experience in building energy/water efficiency and with proven expertise in identification and development of energy conservation measures, analysis of building energy systems for efficiency, modeling, energy codes and standards for commercial buildings. The candidate must have a deep knowledge of buildings and their mechanical, electrical and other support systems. Additionally, the candidate will possess a combination of technical expertise and the ability to communicate via email or in person. S/ he should have experience working as mentor to junior engineers and effectively coordinating with WES colleagues, third-party team members, clients and customers is a core function of this position. Communication and persuasive skills are essential to reaching project milestones and meeting deliverable deadlines.

Desired Skills & Experience

The ideal candidate will meet all of the following criteria:

  • Bachelor's degree in related engineering discipline, e.g., mechanical, electrical and general engineering ;
  • Minimum of 8 years' experience in any of the following: Engineering and Energy Analysis; MEP design; commissioning, retro-commissioning, construction management, project management, or similar analysis of different type of buildings;
  • A thorough understanding of building mechanical and electrical systems, including advanced controls and monitoring systems;
  • General understanding of all the building HVAC, lighting, plumbing and other energy using systems;
  • Experience on design and construction projects for energy efficiency projects.
  • Experience working on construction cost estimates;
  • Ability to calculate cost savings and ROI for customers capital investments;
  • Ability to perform detailed energy savings calculations and spreadsheet analysis;
  • Working experience with energy modeling softwares i.e. Carrier HAP, TRANE TRACE, eQuest, DOE2 etc
  • Ability to create spreadsheet tools to estimate project costs and savings;
  • Self-starting nature with the ability to see tasks through to completion;
  • Strong organizational skills, verbal and written communication skills.
  • A thorough understanding on IPMVP guidelines and have used IPMVP for implementation of M&V for certain performance based programs.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks and deliverables.
  • Provide quality work with exceptional attention to detail.

Additional preferred but not required attributes:

  • LEED AP, and/or CEM accreditation, CBCP or EBCP, CPMVP;
  • PE license
  • Project Management experience and PMP certification
  • Familiarity with NYSERDA incentive programs, , NYPA Programs, , ConEd Incentive programs and ENERGYSTAR performance rating system or other equivalents.
