Description

This position will part of the Grout Program Interpretation and Management team for a dam grouting project. Personnel in this position will be located at the project site in Concrete, Washington.

Grout program engineer will assist with interpretation of data collected during drilling, water pressure testing, and grouting. The engineer will review drilling, water pressure testing, and grouting activities; interpret subsurface conditions using core and boring log data, acoustic and visual televiewer data, water pressure test and grout data; assist in updating the project 3-D geologic model with the acquired data; and participate in Contractor-Owner Team decisions on grout mix changes, injection duration, and program advancement.

Job Responsibilities



  • Review and evaluate data collected drilling, water pressure testing, and grouting operations in overburden, reservoir debris, and bedrock.
  • Track, manage, and assist with coordination of collected data.
  • Update project drawings and project 3-D geologic model using collected data.
  • Support the overall project and prepare reports and other documentation as requested.
  • Interact and communicate with client, construction management, and contractor personnel at all levels.
  • Perform job duties during day or night shifts at the project construction site in Concrete, Washington
  • Follow Shannon & Wilsons Quality Assurance policy.
  • Follow and promote Shannon and Wilsons Health and Safety and Loss Prevention policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by your supervisor.


Qualifications

  • 2 to 6 years of experience in Geotechnical or Geological Engineering.
  • BS in Civil Engineering (Geotechnical Engineering specialty) or Geological Engineering.
  • Engineer-in-Training Certificate
  • Must be able to lift and carry 40 pounds, traverse non-uniform terrain, and climb stairs and ladders.
  • An interest in being on site for the construction and participating in a highly challenging state-of-the-art, technology-heavy, bedrock grouting project.
  • Work experience (and/or coursework) in one or more of the following areas: soil mechanics; rock mechanics; rock and soil slope stability; shallow and deep foundations; tunneling; microtunneling; seismic design; earthquake engineering; and retaining structures.
  • Field/construction observation experience must include one or more of the following areas: logging geotechnical explorations, observation of pile driving operations, observations of earthwork activities, installation and recording of geotechnical instrumentation, field reconnaissance, and/or underground work.
  • Candidates with the following experience are preferred. Those without this experience that are selected to work on the project will gain experience in the following areas during the project.

    • Experience on pressure grouting, seepage cutoff, and dam safety projects preferred.
    • Experience with packer testing in bedrock desirable.
    • Experience with optical and acoustic televiewer data desirable.
    • Experience with WellCAD and Leapfrog desirable.
    • Experience with collection and interpretation of instrumentation data, including data from vibrating wire piezometers a plus.
    • Experience with risk-based and uncertainty-based decision-making processes and comfortable with making informed decisions using variable and incomplete information.

An entry-level Geotechnical Engineer will be hired in as a Professional I, II, III, or IV.



  • Professional I range: $60,000.00 - $70,000.00
  • Professional II range: $65,000.00 - $80,000.00
  • Professional III range: $70,000.00 - $90,000.00
  • Professional IV range: $80,000.00 - $100,000.00


The pay range for this position depends on skills, education, and experience. In additional to base pay, all employees are also eligible for an annual year-end discretionary bonus. If an employee is exempt, they are eligible to accrue comp time in hours excess of 40 each week.
