Sr. Test Software Engineer

As part of a hardworking team of engineers, you will work on developing and maintaining test equipment software used to perform Acceptance and Qualification testing of rocket engine controllers for one or more Rocket Engine programs at Blue Origin. You will aid in the architecture, lead test systems and software development and update, documentation and release process for the test equipment software.

Other pertinent responsibilities will be perform testing, configuration management and test systems hardware and software requirements verification to ensure the engine control hardware is tested properly. You will aid in the debug of both test equipment and controller hardware failures, utilizing your in-depth knowledge of how the tests are performed.

This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and code automated test equipment software to support formal and informal verification of avionics requirements (qualification and acceptance testing)

  • Develop and maintain user interface for running verification tests on the engine controllers

  • Establish and follow test systems hardware and software development processes to ensure test equipment is reliable, released and configuration managed

  • Perform testing of test systems hardware and software

  • Experience with Test Systems HW and SW Qualification

  • Use measurement and data analysis to determine root causes for failures in avionics testing

  • Drive and cultivate strategic partnerships and relationships with relevant teams across Blue Origin

  • Lead by example, caring for the team, and establishing credibility with partners via the quality of the team's technical execution

  • Support analysis of acceptance testing failures conducted by off-site contract manufacturers

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical, computer, aerospace engineering, mechatronics or a related field

  • 8+ years of software development, integration, systems engineering and/or testing experience.

  • Proficiency troubleshooting analog and digital hardware with bench measurement equipment and data acquisition equipment

  • Strong understanding of Data Acquisition Principals

  • Hands-on experience with high reliability mission critical software development

  • Proficiency configuring and troubleshooting test network

  • Proficiency with Python, LabViEW, C, C# and C++

  • Proficiency with Linux Operating System and Scripting

  • Experience with git for SW development

  • Experience with Altium for a Schematic Capture

  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills regarding technical subjects

  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and strengthen our culture of inclusion

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Desired:

  • Graduate degree in electrical, computer, aerospace engineering, mechatronics or a related field

  • Experience planning, executing, and reporting Electromechanical Systems and Control Systems Electronics testing

  • Proficiency with Java Script, HTML/CSS, Rust, MATLAB

  • Experience with Test Systems Hardware and Software Architectural Development

  • Proficiency with Creo for Mechanical drawings and Schematic capture

  • Experience with Test Systems Hardware and Software Requirements Development

  • Experience with SQL database application

  • Good understanding of Statistical Process Control, Measurement Capability and Capacity Analysis

  • Experience developing or certifying DO-254 avionics hardware

  • Familiarity with sensors including linear variable differential transformers, resistance temperature detectors, thermocouples, pressure transducers, and resolvers

  • Experience programming, debugging, and troubleshooting devices with microcontrollers
