The Director, US Finance leads and manages all aspects of accounting, analysis, financial reporting and administration for the US Traditional business segments, provides guidance and accounting support for all new and proposed transactions that are the responsibility of the US Finance department, maintains an effective and compliant internal control environment for the administration and accounting of all US Finance processes and procedures, performs managerial duties, and develops and mentors associates. The Director, US Finance ensures and coordinates process improvements that may extend beyond the area of oversight
Responsibilities
- Leads and manages the administration and accounting of existing and new US Traditional deals. Reviews the transactions and processes for accuracy and reliability, both from an accounting and administration perspective.
- Assesses all requirements for new reinsurance agreements by providing guidance on administration, accounting and reporting needs.
- Analyzes and reviews monthly financial statements for both US Traditional and Financial Solution deals to ensure accurate and reliable financial results. Accounts, analyzes, reports and presents a summary of monthly fluctuations (both to plan and prior year) and provides multiple analytical reports.
- Initiates and leads projects that improve the efficiency of processes, enhance management reporting, and strengthen the controls.
- Leads and manages month-end, quarter-end and annual reporting of balances related to US Traditional and/or Financial Solutions business for Statutory and GAAP reporting, internal financials, clients, and other reports as necessary.
- Maintains SOX documentation related to US Finance procedures and provides audit support and documentation for external, internal and SOX audits.
- Performs management duties, including, but not limited to hiring, training, evaluating, coaching, and disciplining direct reports. Fosters a positive and engaged work environment. Mentors associates and gives guidance on associate development.
- Works with other functional areas in RGA Re to achieve efficient and effective accounting practices and procedures and responds to and requests from other functional areas on various inquires.
Requirements
Required:
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting/Finance or equivalent related work experience
- 8+ years accounting or auditing experience
- 5+ years supervisory or management experience
Preferred:
- Master's Degree, and/or CPA, FLMI
- Advanced PeopleSoft experience
- 10+ years accounting experience
- Insurance or reinsurance experience, including in Statutory accounting
Required:
- Advanced Excel and intermediate Word and PowerPoint skills
- Highly advanced knowledge of accounting/finance theory and application
- Ability to quickly adapt to new methods, work under tight deadlines and stressful conditions
- Advanced oral and written communication skills, demonstrating the ability to convey business terminology that is meaningful and well received
- Advanced level of investigative, analytical and problem solving skills
- Ability to work well within a team environment, participate in department/team projects and balance detail with departmental objectives
- Advanced ability to manage multiple projects and/or teams simultaneously

Preferred:
- Experience with data transformation and visualization tools (e.g. Alteryx, Power BI, Tableau)
