Forestry Technician

Overview:

ACS Professional Staffing is looking for an employee to work on-site with our client. This contract Forestry Technician 2 position will work directly with the Realty Specialist Team Lead for the Danger Tree function within the Real Property Field Services organization. Real Property Field Services is responsible for providing real property technical support to assist in the upkeep of the rights-of-way and corridors. The work involves moderate risks or discomfort that require special safety precautions, e.g., working in varied weather conditions ranging from -40 degrees to +120 degrees; working in torrential rains and deep snow; climbing and walking on slippery surfaces, uneven ground, steep slopes covered with thick brush in mountainous, desert,coastal environments, or urban settings. This is a full-time position located in Portland, OR.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify and appraise danger trees along existing and/or proposed Transmission line corridors and other electrical facilities.
  • Prepare timber appraisals in support of construction and maintenance of electrical Transmission land-related facilities
  • Research and gather data to prepare timber market data reports for applicable localities, to facilitate and support the valuation of the timber to be purchased or sold in support of both the construction and maintenance programs.
  • Assist in the collection of ownership data from county courthouses, title companies and other reliable sources. Assist with the interpretation of detailed legal descriptions, county maps
  • Physically cruise timber to determine volume and quality. Perform calculations and prepare timber reports used in the estimate of just compensation for Real Property rights taken across forest and urban properties.
  • Collect, interpret and provide analysis of information from official records regarding estimates for danger trees and adjacent timber.
  • Maintain filing systems, files, emails and records in accordance with compliance requirements. File and disperse documents/letters only to appropriate personnel. Maintain all official records in accordance with the Information Security (INFOSEC) and Information Governance & Lifecycle Management (IGLM) standards and procedures. Validate official records are accurately maintained for auditing purposes.

Requirements:

  • Associates or Bachelor's degree in a forestry-related field such as geography, natural resources, environmental planning is highly preferred.
  • With an applicable Bachelor's degree, 2 years of work-related skill, knowledge experience is required.
  • With an applicable Associate's Degree, 4 of work-related skill, knowledge experience is required.
  • Without an applicable degree, 8 years of work related skill, knowledge and experience is required.
  • Experience must include forestry and forestry production, engineering or natural resource experience, and must incorporate a diversified knowledge of natural resource principles and practical experience.
  • General map reading skills and use of forestry tools and equipment.
  • Knowledge of logging practices and expenses associated with timber recovery.
  • Land rights review and analysis.
  • Research skills, such as analyze and evaluate integrity of data, identify data discrepancies, search for appropriate resolution(s).
  • Exceptional communication skills (verbal and written) so that information is available for audiences with various technical knowledge.
  • Valid U.S. Driver's License is required.
  • Position requires frequent walking, bending and stooping.
  • Position requires overhead work.
  • Position requires the ability to lift and carry 50 pounds.
  • Position requires a minimum level of physical ability sufficient to lift, carry, move and stack equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Bending stooping, lifting, kneeling, reaching and walking for short distances (up to 500 yards) may be required.
  • Position requires the ability to lift items approximately 50 pounds in weight on and off vehicles and maneuver them, using wheeled carts, to designated locations.
  • Position requires frequent walking on uneven terrain.
  • Position requires working knowledge and safe use of basic hand tools such as a drill, hammer, and saw.
  • Position requires occasional use of machete or other vegetation cutting tools is anticipated for field work.
  • May have to walk in deep snow with snowshoes
  • May occasionally use fire-fighting tools (shovel, Pulaski ax, machete, peavey, fire extinguisher, and backpack fire suppression sprayer), and safety equipment
  • Other Position Considerations
  • Ability to drive a four wheel drive vehicle on rough and difficult roads in all types of weather conditions.
