The Customer Network Engineer's main responsibilities include the scoping, design, implementation, and support of reliable, secure, and scalable customer solutions. The objective of the Engineer is to create and maintain the first line of defense between our customer's business assets and potential threats that could compromise the confidentiality, integrity, and/or availability of those assets. The Engineer will work directly with the Sales team, customer, and internal departments to create solutions that meet or exceed current and future network and security requirements and test those solutions to ensure all customer and business needs are met. The Engineer will provide support for escalated customer issues including troubleshooting infrastructure or communication layer issues. Based on location, this position is full-time with remote options.

Responsibilities

  • Support all other engineers while working with Infrastructure Engineers, Solutions Engineers, Project Managers, and Operations Management on customer implementations, piloting new solutions, and proofs of concepts.
  • Cultivate interdepartmental relationship to encourage communication, innovation, and the completion of projects on or before set deadlines.
  • Work and communicate directly with customers to test solutions and resolve issues.
  • Self-manage workload including assigned projects/tickets.
  • Identify, report, and triage deficiencies in solutions and implementations.
  • Transition of new designs and customer products from Engineering to Support.
  • Execute implementation of requested security changes to existing solutions.
  • Receive and work escalations from support teams.
  • Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation schedule with flexibility to work nights and weekends.
  • Support Sales team on customer qualification and sizing
  • Work directly with vendors to address technical problems and issues.
  • Occasional travel may be required.
  • Escalation points for all engineers.
  • Train and mentor other engineers as needed.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Advanced hands-on experience configuring and managing advanced networking devices. Including Palo Alto, Juniper, VM, AWS, IPsec VPNs.
  • Advanced experience directly supporting customer networks.
  • Advanced experience working with routing protocols (TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, SD-WAN, etc.)
  • Advanced knowledge of the layers of IP networking.
  • Advanced knowledge of application-level protocols such as HTTP/HTTPs, SSL/TLS, DNSSec and SNMP
  • Hands-on experience with GitLab and change management.
  • Applicant must be self-motivated and should not require significant guidance or leadership.
  • Strong knowledge of working in an IT support environment using an ITSM/ ITIL based ticketing system.
  • Strong knowledge of information technology (IT) security principles and methods (e.g., firewalls, demilitarized zones, encryption).
  • Advanced knowledge of network management and troubleshooting utilities.
  • Advanced knowledge of PCI-DSS compliance or other industry standard compliance efforts.
  • Manages large scale projects and leads efforts to enhance and maintain infrastructure.
  • Applicant is expected to exhibit excellent oral and written communication skills necessary for conveying information to other persons and presenting solutions in technical documentation.
  • Applicant is expected to have the organizational skills necessary for developing and coordinating assigned projects, providing updates, communicating, and escalating issues, as necessary.

  • Palo Alto certification or equivalent experience.
  • Cisco Meraki certification or equivalent experience.
  • Cradlepoint certification or equivalent experience.
  • Bachelor of Science in Technology or equivalent experience.
