Summary:
Provides care of patients by providing clinical care and optimizing medication use and drug distribution services in an adolescent behavioral health setting.

Department of Pharmacy Overview:

The Department of Pharmacy is a dynamic and critical part of patient care provided by the UNC Health Care system. UNC's Department of Pharmacy is an organization of more than 500 dedicated employees with focused attention on caring for patients of the UNC Health Care system. UNC Hospitals Youth Behavioral Health Overview:

UNC Hospitals Youth Behavioral Health is a new adolescent behavioral health facility with UNC Health. The vision of UNC Hospitals Youth Behavioral Health is to be a leader in providing collaborative, client-centered behavioral health care utilizing an innovative, empathetic, and trauma-informed based model of treatment for adolescents with mental illness. Services are provided with respect and without regard for race, color, gender, national origin, religion, creed, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression, insurance coverage, or income. The team is seeking a motivated and caring PER DIEM pharmacist that will help ensure the provision of safe and effective patient care at UNC Hospitals Youth Behavioral Health.

Responsibilities:

  • Work cross collaboratively in a behavioral health clinical practice setting
  • Attend treatment teams and provide clinical consults
  • Receives medication orders, interprets medication orders, and reviews the patient's medication profile / history. Clarifies incomplete, inaccurate, or contraindicated orders with the prescriber, nurse, or other health professional, as appropriate. Identifies and intervenes on problems related to the medication needs of the patient.
  • Utilizes and analyzes patient data to provide optimal drug therapy recommendations. Assesses the patient's medication therapy regimen and makes appropriate clinical interventions with the provider.
  • Complies with the medication formulary, and therapeutic substitution and other programs designed to optimize drug therapy while minimizing cost as required.
  • Completes required documentation such as notations in the medical record, controlled substances documentation, competency, etc. as required.
  • Counsels patients and appropriate family members regarding pharmaceutical care issues as requested or required.
  • Directs workflow of the shift and supervises pharmacy technicians, students, and/or volunteers present during that shift.
  • Adheres to federal, state, local and institutional policies, procedures, standards and regulations.
  • Identifies and participates in process improvement opportunities.
  • Precepts students, residents and participates in training new pharmacy staff as required.

Education Requirements:
* Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy.
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
* Eligible for licensure as a Registered Pharmacist in NC. Licensure from NC Board of Pharmacy required within 6 months of orientation date or sooner if required for operations
Professional Experience Requirements:
* No prior experience required.
