Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) for their Emergency Department (ED) - Level 1 Trauma Center

Shift: Full-Time/Rotating

Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is the region's first Magnet Hospital. It is a 525-bed medical center, serves as a primary teaching facility, and home to the area's only Level 1 Trauma Center within a 126-mile region. Our Norfolk General facility has four intensive care units and two intensive care units in our 112-bed Nationally Ranked Heart Hospital that sits on our campus. Norfolk General is a Comprehensive Certified Stroke Center, it has a national ranked Urology Program and has a dedicated Burn Trauma Unit. We provide heart, kidney, and pancreas transplants at Norfolk General Hospital. In addition, the hospital is home to the Nightingale Regional Air Ambulance that provides sophisticated critical trauma care.

The Norfolk General Hospital's Emergency Department is a 53-bed unit. Our Trauma One Facility is equipped to handle a variety of medical emergencies, and approximately 10% are Trauma related.

Job Summary

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) functions under the supervision of an RN or Licensed Independent Practitioner (LIP) in the clinical setting, within the scope of practice dictated by the State Boards of Nursing. The LPN demonstrates professional and clinical knowledge relative to designated clinical practice setting in the delivery of direct patient care, adhering to the level of verified competency dictated by the site specific program. The LPN works as part of a multi-disciplinary team to support and communicate effectively with other licensed independent practitioners (Physicians, NP, PA) in collaboration while providing care and treatment for patients, clinical support and teaching for patient and family members, and adheres to the legal and ethical standards of nursing practice. Maintains all certifications and licensure relevant to clinical practice setting. LPN manages responsibilities of workload with accuracy, provides excellence in customer service, performs testing, medication administration and the implementation of nursing interventions and care plans to support a holistic approach to patient care. The LPN serves as patient advocate in the prevention of illness or disease.

Meets any requirements defined by specific specialty.
Behavioral Health - de-escalation and physical intervention training within 15 days of hire
Emergency Care - de-escalation and physical intervention training within 90 days of hire.
BLS required within 90 days of hire. Sentara Enterprises: 1 year healthcare experience required.
