Payroll Specialist II (Hybrid)

SUMMARY:

Under general supervision, the Payroll Specialist II provides technical, analytical, and functional support for the Payroll Department. In this position, you will process bonus requests, tax adjustments and run reports to audit payroll results to identify errors and make necessary corrections prior to closing of the payroll cycle. This role requires you to be on-site for the first 6 months for training, and then you will transition to a hybrid work environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Works within the constraints of timetables and schedules to meet all payroll deadlines and interprets and communicates Payroll and HR policies
  • Effectively manages the payroll service center electronic mailbox and communicates well in written form, providing timely and accurate responses to emails requests received
  • Processes assigned work and assists team members as needed for timely and accurate execution of Payroll input and resulting audits
  • Validates and processes pay and time corrections for any off cycle pay
  • Analyzes and communicates with regional HR and staff departments regarding inaccuracies or discrepancies in hours worked or pay actions and ENTERS the transactions in a timely manner
  • Runs and reviews payroll reports; verifies processing is accurate for payroll calculation routines
  • Provides advice and support to fellow payroll associates and customers as needed for processing payroll
  • Maintains a strong relationship with the Corporate HR Department to assist in all HR related policies, requests, and inquiries
  • Prepares follow-up for Stop Payment requests, manual check requests, and associated system updates
  • Performs weekly overtime audits against payroll system for accuracy of time reporting
  • Researches Payroll inquiries and answers question thoroughly via the ticketing system
  • Assists with annual merits, pay increases, special pays and retroactive pay calculations
  • Processes quarterly tax corrections for federal, state, and local taxes
  • Adheres to GEICO Code of Conduct, company policies, and operating principles
  • Meets attendance standard at business location to perform necessary job functions and to facilitate interaction with management and co-workers

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be able to, with or without accommodation, perform the essential functions which include, but are not limited to seeing, hearing, typing, and speaking
  • Must be able to work both independently and in a team environment
  • Must be organized and able to multi-task
  • Must be able to learn and apply large amounts of procedural information
  • Must be able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • Ability to work extended hours during the week and seldomly on a weekend as needed
  • Must be able to physically report on-site during orientation and as requested by management
  • Must have the following experience:
  • Minimum 3 years of payroll experience preferred
  • Possess strong Excel experience and ability to build reports
  • Experience with Workday's Payroll system is a plus
