Summary:

Determines business stakeholders' requirements for consumable metrics and data elements tied to self-service data and reporting needs. Collaborates with business units and subject matter experts to identify existing data products. Develops and builds virtual data marts, researches new technologies, and implements data strategies to design efficient data models. Maintains and monitors the enterprise semantic layer and associated data models. Develops best practices for data coding and integrating reference data sets to ensure consistency and governance. Troubleshoots and optimizes semantic layer data models.

Essential Functions:

• Determines business stakeholders' requirements for consumable metrics and data elements tied to self-service data and reporting needs.
• Collaborates with business units and subject matter experts to identify existing data products as candidates for the enterprise semantic layer.
• Develops designs for virtual data models implementing technology best practices, guidelines, and repeatable processes.
• Builds virtual data marts and develops semantic layer data assets as virtual views.
• Maintains and monitors the enterprise semantic layer and associated data models and resolves report errors.
• Provides virtual data architecture and model creation services on data and analytics projects and keeps data model references up to date for the Strategic Analytics department.
• Identifies strategic opportunities to rationalize data sets and views that from logical hierarchies reduce redundancy and data movement.

Education & Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field or equivalent relevant experience
• Eight years of experience in structuring data models for data and analytics platforms including experience in understanding of data flows, data structures, and preparing big datasets
• Experience with semantic layer tools such as Denodo, AtScale, Domo preferred
• Experience in metadata management and descriptive statistics preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Excellent knowledge of SQL and PostGreSQL
• Excellent knowledge of data modeling and semantic layer tools such as Denodo, AtScale or Domo
• Thorough knowledge of Star and Snowflake schema and Cube design and development
• Excellent Microsoft Excel and Power BI skills
• Strong knowledge of database platforms such as Snowflake, Azure, and AWS
• Strong knowledge of Python or R preferred
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and presentation skills
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Strong project management skills and attention to detail
