Assistant Stationary Engineer

Under guidance of the higher-level Stationary Engineer, the Assistant Stationary Engineer will monitor and operate all current and future Utility Plant equipment in a safe and efficient manner including but not limited to boilers, turbines, emergency diesel generators, chillers, air compressors, pumps, water treatment and associated equipment. This role will troubleshoot, maintain, clean plant equipment, completes logs, and record keeping. The Assistant Stationary Engineer will follow operating, safety and environmental standards. This role must be eligible to work a 12-hour shift and is subject to emergency calls.

This position is located on the Ohio State University campus in Columbus, OH and will report to the Operations Manager.

What you'll do:



  • Takeplant readings, monitorutility system performance, conductwater testing and makes changes as necessary to provide reliable and efficient plant operations
  • Respondto alarms and utility system conditions
  • Performtroubleshooting and inspection activities
  • Completestartup, shutdown and Lock Out/Tagout of equipment
  • Reviewplant SOP's and other training material directed toward passing the State of Ohio third class stationary engineer license exam
  • Operatecurrent and future utility plant equipment including but not limited to boilers, turbines, chillers, air compressors, emergency generators and associated equipment
  • Other duties as assigned

What you bring:



  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required
  • State of Ohio pressure boiler operator licensepreferred
  • Successful completion of a 125-hour steam boiler and steam turbine operation course approved by the superintendent preferred
