Summary

The Accountant Analyst, General Ledger (GL) (with emphasis in Lease and IBNR Accounting) will act as a business partner for multiple stakeholders and will report directly to the Corporate Controller. This position is responsible for supporting accounting management. Responsibilities include but are not limited to timely and accurate preparation of balance sheet reconciliations,
Lease Accounting, Reserve Accounting, Support Internal and External Audit requests, Balance Sheet and Income Statement analytics, assigned projects, while meeting stringent deadlines.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities



  • The Accountant Analyst analyzes financial results related to assigned GL accounts including identification of significant budget variances and potential errors or miscoded activity.
  • Prepares various account reconciliations monthly and quarterly as assigned.
  • Assists management in obtaining and summarizing accounting information/data.
  • The Accountant Analyst plans and communicates forecast updates
  • Prepares quarterly and annual information for financial reporting.
  • Prepares audit schedules for quarterly and year end audits, as requested.
  • The Accountant Analyst follows company policies and adheres to Sarbanes Oxley guidelines.
  • Analyzes all lease documents in coordination with real estate personnel and updates the lease database to properly calculate the valuation of the lease liability and Right of Use (ROU) asset.
  • Reconciles and adjusts comprehensive lease database and oversees assigned account leasing records.
  • Reviews lease documents and determines the appropriate classification and accounting treatment.
  • Prepares rent invoices and communicates with lessees.
  • The Accountant Analyst assists with Monthly, Quarterly and Annual Internal / External Audits.
  • Assists with Quarterly Consolidated Balance Sheet Reconciliation Analytics.
  • Ensures accounting controls by managing assigned balance sheet accounts; performing account reconciliations with supporting workpapers and performing appropriate research to ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) standards (20 Accounts).
  • The Accountant Analyst assists Management with the Following Self Insurance Tasks:

    • Yearly Risk Analysis Budgeting / Premium Process.
    • Self-Insurance Balance Sheet Reconciliations preparation and analysis (Workers' Compensation, General Liability, Auto, Directors and Officers (D&O), Resident Healthcare (Offsite Medical), and Employee Healthcare).
    • Develop and maintain various actuarial/financial models and excel spreadsheets to adequately complete analyses.
    • Provide management with regular statistical information and reports concerning Self-Insurance.
    • Use analytical tools to identify meaningful trend drivers, with linkage to financial results.
    • Analyze and report on trend and budget vs. actual variances.
    • Prepare, analyze and report the monthly Incurred but Not Reported (IBNR) and revenue journal entries.
    • Process and analyze IBNR.
    • Create and maintain work-papers as requested by outside financial auditors.


  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting and four (4) years progressive experience in an accounting related capacity with demonstrated exposure working with standard concepts, practices and procedures applied in an analysis capacity is preferred.
  • Relies on experience and expertise to plan work accordingly and to accomplish the position's goals and objectives.
  • Experience reviewing lease documents to determine the accounting impact.
  • Ability to problem solve and reshape processes to improve efficiencies and accuracy.
  • Good analytical skills with the ability to identify and resolve the typical questions and issues that arise as a result of completing daily work activities.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills. Ability to interact with Business Managers in the field and others to resolve questions and problems.
  • Ability to produce schedules and reports in a clear and concise manner.
  • Ability to work with computers and the necessary software used by the department typically including the Financial Information System (FIS) and spreadsheets. Strong Excel skills are a must.
  • Understands GAAP, industry standards and remains informed of changes in the marketplace; demonstrates the cognitive ability to assess situations, diagnose problems and determine an appropriate course of action to enhance the effectiveness of the organization and in alignment with core values.
  • Demonstrates the ability and willingness to cope with change and can act and decide without excessive amounts of data or information. Can comfortably handle risk and uncertainty.
  • Strong Communications Skills, Customer Service Focus and a team player and mentor.
  • Highly Developed organization interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate technical concepts to internal customers.
