What you'll be doing...

As a Senior Network ME Lab Engineer working in the Maintenance and Engineering Organization, you will be responsible for designing, documenting, and validating various components and features of our Managed Trusted Internet Protocol Service (MTIPS), Trusted Internet Connections (TIC 3.0) program. You will interact with many internal and external teams, collaborate on solutions to solve complex problems, and ensure platforms remain ready to create the solutions our Public Sector and Commercial customers count on.
Responsibilities:

  • The Senior Network Lab Engineer is responsible for day-to-day maintenance of the lab operations rapid prototyping facilities including user support, software updates, hardware maintenance, inventory control, standards adherence, and general lab upkeep. Thorough understanding of lab infrastructure, hands-on, working knowledge with copper/fiber cabling, rack and stack (or managing virtual deployments), and configuration of multi-vendor, multi-platform telecommunications devices will ensure that you can adapt quickly to changing requirements to support test cases. Experience with service provider technologies and services is preferred.
  • The individual will be supporting a lab environment that is a replica of the production environment. The lab engineer will implement the lab network and security devices to reflect the production environment and test equipment and configurations to validate equipment performance. The individual will be developing test plan documents that identify the testing requirements, scenarios, methodologies, and configurations to be tested. The individual will configure the lab, run the tests, and document the results of the testing in a testing summary document. The individual will additionally be responsible for testing specific customer policies within the environment to determine the impact on the production environment.
  • Lab Engineers will be responsible for ensuring all documentation to deploy features/capabilities to production is accurate and complete.
  • Responsible for configuring devices in Cisco IOS XE, IOS XR, NX-OS, Junos OS, GVUE, IXIA, and other vendor devices. The individual should have a strong background working with BGP, IPsec, SSL, PKI, key management, Physical Security, Network Security, Correlation Tools, Vulnerability Scanning Tools, and Information Assurance.
  • Participate in or conduct periodic status meetings and joint working sessions with teams and suppliers on integration and testing activities.
  • Work as part of test teams and suppliers to ensure timely delivery and overall functioning of the solution in the lab and production environments.
  • Meet schedule commitments to ensure timely delivery.
  • Prepare and present technical status updates for the senior leadership team and all cross-functional project teams.
  • Accountable for project or program results. Develop methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for achieving end results.
  • Solve a wide range of complex problems. Provide solutions to technical issues that have project-wide and revenue impact.
  • Work is varied within a sometimes ambiguous environment which requires constant interpretation utilizing keen critical thinking and troubleshooting skills.

What we're looking for...

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Four or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Ability to pass a Public Trust Security Clearance.

Even better if you have:

  • Master's degree in a technical field - preferably in Information Security, Information Technology, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or Physics.
  • Certifications: CCNP, CCIE.
  • Programming / Scripting: Python, Bash.
  • Strong understanding of network protocols including but not limited to IP, IPv6, TCP, UDP, ARP, NAT, DHCP, DNS, HTTP, and IPsec.
  • Experience with maintaining BGP routing templates and configurations.
  • Eight years experience working with communications equipment vendors or service providers in configuring, monitoring, and troubleshooting IP/MPLS networks.
  • Strong technical expertise in Internet routing, specifically around large-scale BGP IPv4 and IPv6 environments.
  • Strong foundational expertise in IP routing protocols (BGP), VXLANs, IPsec, VPNs, EVPN, MPLS, QoS.
  • Experience working with security tools such as Wireshark, NMAP, and Nessus Security Center.
  • Experience with structured fiber and copper cabling, cable termination, cable management, and adherence to guidelines for maintaining clean cable runs.
  • Experience with managing inventory, asset tracking, shipping and receiving records, purchasing information, etc.
  • Experience with racking and stacking new equipment and ensuring environmental, electrical, and facility requirements are met.
  • Senior-level engineering experience across a plethora of vendors and associated technologies which could include: routing, switching, security, and WAN optimization.
  • Senior-level knowledge of public and private cloud, virtualization, orchestration, and managed services.
  • Experience maintaining lab infrastructure including user databases, software repositories, network infrastructure, server infrastructure, and associated applications.
  • Experience leading small inter-organizational teams toward a common goal.
  • Experience across a range of industries which could include: Telecommunications, the Public Sector, Small Business, etc.
  • Experience in next-generation technologies including Zero Trust, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), Software Defined Networking (SDN), Multi-Cloud, and/or Multi-access Edge Compute (MEC), particularly in a Managed Services (MSP) or Telecommunications/Service Provider setting.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • The candidate must be self-motivated, have excellent oral and written communication skills, and can work autonomously and in a team environment.
