Position Summary
This incumbent plays a key role in departmental operations by performing administrative and support duties for the Department of Political Science, the Survey Research Center ( SRC), the Data Analytics and Public Policy Certificate, and the Applied Politics program. Along with general department administrative duties, including website updating tasks, this employee spearheads the department's course management. This incumbent will also work with the School of Public and International Affairs Student Affairs Manager and team to support the Double Dawgs initiative and general course maintenance.

Course Management

  • Review course needs

    • Send Qualtrics surveys to faculty to gather course offering requests
    • Adjust requests with required offerings (1101, honors, under 20s, etc)



  • Coordinate faculty teaching schedules

    • Schedule sections with focus on classroom/time requests listed on faculty surveys
    • Manage schedule conflicts
    • Balance MWF/TR offerings in both fall and spring semesters


  • Serve as CAPA initiator

    • Collect new course and course change proposals
    • Enter into CAPA for approval
    • Assist the head with approvals


  • Load courses into Banner
  • Assist SPIA Student Affairs with setting up internship courses

SPIA Student Affairs Administrative Support

  • Support for Double Dawgs admin: verifying eligibility of students, recruiting, providing information to prospective students, coordinate with SPIA graduate and undergraduate programs to ensure tasks complete
  • Communicate with newly admitted SPIA students ("New Dawgs" program)
  • Support for SPIA Curriculum Committee
  • Attend SPIA Student Affairs meetings and serve as an integral member of the team

  • Collect and update information on speakers
  • Collect and process program applications
  • Monitor student progress
  • Manage Student Workers

    • Work with SPIA Business Team to request the hiring, funding, and termination of SRC student workers.
    • Approve time of student workers.
    • Identify mis-keyed time and work with SPIA Business Team to request corrections.
