Position Summary |
Coordinate athletic training services for student-athletes participating in intercollegiate athletic programs - primarily men's and women's swimming and diving - with the University of Georgia Athletic Association (
UGAAA), under the medical direction of the head team physician and in conjunction with a variety of approved healthcare providers as well as
UGAAA staff (including but not limited to athletic training, physical therapy, athletic coaching, strength and conditioning, sports nutrition, behavioral medicine, academics, and administration). |

- Applied Knowledge: five practice domains of athletic training as well as a wide range of medical concerns
- Interpersonal Skills: effective communication in both day-to-day tasks as well as high stress circumstances with student-athletes, parents / guardians, coaches, as well as colleagues
- Critical Thinking, Problem Solving, and Decision-Making Skills: appropriate conclusions / outcomes, particularly as it pertains to healthcare of the student-athlete
- Attention to Detail: thorough and organized, particularly with preparation and documentation
- Time Management Skills: prioritize and perform multiple tasks with little or no supervision

Therapeutic Intervention:
o Under the medical direction of team physician
o In conjunction with other healthcare providers
o Follow appropriate rehabilitation protocols
o Use of therapeutic modalities and exercise
o Provide accommodations in sport-related to injury/illness
o Assess readiness for safe return to play
o Guide sport-specific functional progression |

Healthcare Administration and Professional Responsibility:
o Prepare injury reports
o Document in electronic medical record
o Collect pertinent medical paperwork
o Collect injury incident data for research purposes
o Coordinate student-athlete medical appointments
o Maintain primary and satellite athletic training rooms
o Maintain certifications and licensures on national and state level as appropriate
o Participate in continuing education opportunities, both individually and with the sports medicine staff
o Perform upper-level administrative duties for the sports medicine department
