Electrification Engineer

ABOUT THE ROLE

As an Electrification Engineer, you'll be a technical leader in advancing Oshkosh Corporation's electrification efforts across our family of vehicles and equipment. Our products range from fire trucks, emergency vehicles, military vehicles, refuse trucks, concrete mixers, and even access equipment and aerial work platforms. You'll work on various types of electrical design, re-design, and development of electrical systems into the existing and future range of our products and vehicles. We're looking for someone with strong knowledge and skills in electro-mechanical systems, power electronics, electrical machines, energy storage, and analysis of such systems to work closely with suppliers, engineering specialists, and other departments of Oshkosh Corporation.

HOW YOU WILL MAKE AN IMPACT

  • Plans and directs the technical aspects of highly complex research and development programs

  • Provides counsel and direction to other members of the team engineers

  • Independently researches new technology to be used in the development of new products

  • Responsible for the specification development, integration, verification and validation test plan creation of electro-mechanical systems, power electronics, electrical machines, energy storage, systems to meet internal and external customer requirements

  • Identify and work with applicable industry standards that apply to design requirements to meet performance, safety, and industry design compliance.

  • Plan and direct engineering in a major project through all phases of innovation and development

  • Establishes priorities for work delegated to others

  • Assist in feasibility studies and project estimates on proposed projects, both internally and with external partner companies and organizations

  • Directs preparation of layouts, drawings, specification, and bills of material

  • Select parts and/or design components for cost, quality, performance to meet requirements

  • Consult with suppliers, customers, & members of Engineering, Purchasing, Manufacturing, Assembly, Service, Testing, Quality Control, and Marketing departments

  • Follow project on the assembly floor through initial build and render assistance necessary to support manufacturing and industrial engineering efforts

  • Possess a strong theoretical electrical knowledge of electro-mechanical systems, power electronics, electrical machines, energy storage, vehicles, electrical theory, electrical component and related systems

WHAT YOU NEED

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering with a strong electrical background

  • 2-plus years of relevant work experience-working with renewable energy and truck/mobile equipment

  • Working knowledge and comfortable working on electrical systems up to 1,000 volts and high current

WHAT MAKES YOU STAND OUT

  • Background or training in electro-mechanical systems, power electronics, electrical machines, energy storage, electric vehicles

  • Relevant design experience with vehicle electrical systems

  • Experience designing to Society of Automotive Engineer (SAE) and Military Standards

  • Experience with modeling and simulation software such as Simplorer, Aimesim, Simulink, PSPice and Saber

  • Experience with automotive, heavy-duty equipment or photovoltaic/solar industry

  • Knowledge of the ampacity, material compatibility and characteristics of common metals as well as understanding different fasteners and proper fastener stack up for electrical connections.
