The Department of Finance at Metropolitan State University of Denver invites applicationsfor a temporary 1-year position as a lecturer in Financial Markets and Institutions beginning August 2023. This position is a full-time, non-tenure track appointment created to support the recently created degree in banking. The successful candidate will be expected to teach upper division undergraduate banking courses while engaging in meaningful service activities that will benefit the Department, College, and/or University.

The university's AACSB-accredited College of Business houses six academic departments: Finance, Accounting, Computer Information Systems and Business Analytics, Economics, Management, and Marketing. The Department of Finance serves almost 400 majors who can choose specialized study in either general finance, financial services, banking, or real estate. The financial services curriculum is registered with CFP Board of Standards, and graduates may qualify (depending on their coursework) to sit forthe national certification exam upon graduation.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate for this position will be expected to possess significant professional experience in the banking industry and have an interest in conducting research or consulting in the field of Financial Markets and Institutions. The successful candidate will be expected to teach according to university-specified policies using a variety of instructional modes and courses that fit the needs of the department. Consistently high levels of teaching performance, as evidenced by student ratings of instruction are expected. The successful candidate for this position will be expected to teach courses such as Introduction to Banking at the lower-division level and Banking Operations at the upper-division level.

Required Qualifications

Candidates must meet the criteria as described in the College of Business FacultyQualifications policy at the time of hire for Instructional Practitioner/Scholarly Practitioner status (as defined by the University). These classifications are explained in detail in the document linked here (see page 4):

Preferred Qualifications

  • A minimum of ten consecutive years of significant professional experience in the banking industry, current at the time of hire
  • The ability to teach upper division finance courses together with the ability to document a minimum of three years of successful upper-division teaching experience at the University level
  • A documented track record of developing intellectual and scholarly contributions that have been shared with the wider academic community, or the demonstrated ability to develop such contributions based on previous work experience, including working on consulting projects, making recommendations and generating reports
  • Experience teaching in an online environment using Canvas or other similar learning management system

Salary for Announcement

The salary range for this position is $98,000 - $102,000 at Lecturer level. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based upon a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, education, experience, specialty and training.
