Job summary: We invite applicants for the position of Associate Curator. The person in this position has a significant role in fulfilling the institution's mission and goals of presenting a balanced schedule of significant exhibitions representing the diversity of the community and the art of the world from all time periods, following the highest standards of exhibition production and presentation. Working with the exhibitions team, and in consultation with colleagues in Design, Education, Communications, Marketing, Development, and Guest Services departments, the Associate Curator takes a role in exhibition selection, organization, and interpretation and works as curatorial liaison for traveling exhibitions coming to the Frist. The Associate Curator will be responsible for organizing exhibitions, from the conceptual and budgeting phases through installation and special events, including media preview, press interviews, and VIP tours. The following duties are normal for this classification. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. Essential Job Functions:
Education: Advanced degree in art history, or a related field preferred, or equivalent work experience. Specialization in pre-20th century or non-Western art preferred, but with an interest and capacity to organize/manage exhibitions of contemporary art. Work Experience: Strong museum background, including at least three years of experience developing and managing exhibitions both on the scholarly and practical fronts within a museum environment, as well as writing and producing related publications and didactics; administrative experience; extensive public contact; grant writing.
