Gettysburg College, in historic Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, is seeking a dynamic and innovative individual who has a strong administrative, partnership and student development background to serve in this 12 month, full-time position as Assistant Director for International Student Services. Gettysburg College is a highly selective, residential undergraduate liberal arts college, which enrolls approximately 2,600 students. 

 

The primary responsibility of the Assistant Director is to serve as a central resource for students, further developing and facilitating programs and services, and providing leadership, coordination and support for their success.  The Assistant Director serves as a Designated School Official (DSO) providing immigration advice and support to over 200 international students, while assisting with cultural programming.

 

Responsibilities include:

 

·         Serve as a DSO and advise students on all aspects of F-1 visa regulations.

·         Maintain student SEVIS records through regular batching, using Peoplesoft PASS module, including generating I-20s for new and continuing students.

·         Manage SEVIS records for alumni on OPT and STEM extensions.

·         Advising students on cultural and social adjustment, health and insurance, driver’s license, banking, social security numbers, and other related issues.

·         Assist students in using Sprintax to complete and file federal tax forms.

·         Stay up to date with regulatory updates that affect students through professional forums, professional development, and professional organizations.

·         Develop and lead International Student Services office programming that supports the retention and overall success of international students, including the International Student Orientation

·         Collaborate with campus partners on intercultural, career, wellness and social activity programming; including the larger Inclusion & Belonging team.

·         Assist with advising cultural student organizations.

·         Manage ISS social media presence.

 

In keeping with its strategic focus, Gettysburg College is interested in candidates who have demonstrated a commitment to providing intentional leadership in building an inclusive, equitable and diverse campus community focused on retention as well as academic, social, and cultural support services. The incumbent will develop and assess programs and provide support/development services to students.  This individual acts as a key resource for international students in transitioning to and through the collegiate journey. Competitive candidates will also have demonstrated skill in working within cross-cultural contexts; strong interpersonal and intercultural communication skills and demonstrable organizational and management skills.  Previous experience working in a liberal arts context is preferred or ability to translate past work to a liberal arts context is required. Candidates are also expected to have demonstrable experience with data utilization and learning assessment as a tool to measure the effectiveness of the department’s programs. 

Successful candidates will have experience working with campus partners to integrate their position’s primary responsibilities with creating a campus environment in which international students will thrive. This includes an interest and desire to work with students through a variety of initiatives, including, but not limited to, student advising and counseling, supporting student clubs/organizations, program planning, and assessment.

 

Collaboration and teamwork is an expectation of the College Life staff. As such, the successful candidate for the Assistant Director position will be expected to work cross-departmentally in support of the overall student experience and should expect to contribute to work groups, committees, and projects outside of the core responsibilities of this position.  Gettysburg believes this cross-departmental involvement creates stronger teamwork, a better student experience and professional development opportunities for staff.

A Master’s degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs Administration, College Student Personnel, Counseling, Social Work, or a related field is preferred. Candidates must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident to become a DSO as per the Department of Homeland Security requirements. A qualified candidate will have a minimum of one (1) year of experience working with international students and serving as a Designated School official (DSO). Competitive candidates will have a track record or a high degree of demonstrated interest in supporting and advocating for change across a broad spectrum of campus life. This is a full-time, 12-month administrative position.
