Education Data Analyst

 

Position Overview

Quality Information Partners (QIP) seeks a conscientious, analytical, independent education analyst to work on several U.S. Department of Education (ED) data management tasks, including the EDFacts Initiative, Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) data, and the CCD (Common Core of Data). The Data Analyst will support the research and evaluation team in various data analytic tasks. The data analyst will develop clear and well-structured analytical plans and analyze datasets that range in size, but mostly will focus on large administrative data sets. Activities will include cleaning administrative data, adapting and creating coding for detecting data quality errors, identifying trends in longitudinal data, analyzing data according to requirements and developing output that facilitates data use and research. The data analyst should be comfortable working in Excel and have some experience with a statistical coding language (e.g., SAS, R or STATA). A true curiosity for data is a must.

This is a full-time remote position that requires at least a one-year commitment from the applicant. QIP is a virtual office community and work will be performed in the applicant’s US home office.  The starting salary range of this position is $55,000-$60,000.

Responsibilities

  • Extract, merge, manipulate, analyze, and model quantitative data using analytical and statistical tools.
  • Conduct exploratory data analyses.
  • Create ad hoc reports to assess the quality and meaning of data.
  • Organize and document analytical results and research procedures.
  • Support the development of public-facing materials (e.g., reports, data files, visualizations).
  • Provide support to carry out research, evaluation, and outreach tasks as assigned.
  • Communicate effectively with a broad range of constituents.
  • Prepare reports and present findings to clients.
  • Serve as client contact for analytical expertise.
  • Collaborate with a larger data team to support ED’s data management efforts.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience of 1-3 years in roles related to education, education policy, data quality processes, or interpreting data
  • Exceptional skills in Excel to merge and analyze large datasets (to include pivot tables, VLOOKUPS, macros)
  • Experience in SAS, STATA, R and/or other statistical reporting tools
  • Attention to detail and the ability to think analytically and exercise judgment to solve problems
  • Strong research and analytical skills
  • Strong organizational skills and a proven ability to effectively manage competing priorities and tasks
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written) and the ability to build positive relationships. 
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • High degree of professionalism, discretion, and excellent customer service skills 

 

Preferred Skills

  • Master's degree, preferably in public policy, education, public administration, sociology, or a related social science discipline
  • Experience with advanced SAS procedures—such as PROC SQL and SAS Macro Language—highly preferred 
  • Experience with SAS Viya, Tableau, Power BI, or other data visualization tools
  • An interest in K-12 education data

 

Please note:  This position requires an employee to obtain a federal public trust security clearance as mandated by a federal client/contract.
