Under the general direction of AmerisourceBergen (AB) leadership and working closely with cross departmental stakeholders, the Sr. Director of Pharmacy Strategic Sourcing will be responsible for developing enterprise level support strategies for AB health system clients in the areas of strategic drug sourcing for health system pharmacies. This includes expanding and optimizing current programs and developing new novel solutions that leverage AB's relationship with industry, vendor and client partners. Success for this position is measured on the ability to create mutually beneficial solutions that create financial sustainability for AB, health system pharmacies and industry partners.
- Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Leads development of health system strategic drug sourcing initiatives for AB clients including
- Class of trade optimization strategies
- Health system "own use" utilization support and solution development
- GPO and manufacturer strategic alignment and initiatives
- Coordination and alignment with evolving 340B strategies
- Integration with holistic drug delivery systems - pharmacy, infusion, medically integrated dispensaries, central supply, etc.
- Provide subject matter expertise and consultative support to strategic health system clients in areas that include:
- Assessment of current retail / ambulatory / specialty program environment
- Development of class of trade maximization strategic plans
- Support the configuration of health system "own-use" class of trade accounts
- Consultative support on the development of drug replenishment processes
- 340B program alignment and maximization
- Develop and present program related data and KPI
- Identify client business development and clinical expansion opportunities
- Maintain industry intelligence pertaining to drug sourcing to inform the evolution of AB solutions.
- Coordinate the development of supporting educational, marketing, sales, and financial materials to drive program growth
- Drive the development of meaningful analytics tools to identify new opportunity, size client engagements, track financial performance and measure KPI / outcomes
- Use data analytics to inform and strategically drive solution performance
- Facilitate process improvement within the AB ecosystem that will enable more seamless integration of optimized purchasing for AB clients.
- Collaborate with sales leaders to integrate solutions into client engagements and contract negotiations.
- Provide financial reporting including - program performance, impact to stakeholders, budgeting / projections and cost avoidance.
- Provide internal and external thought leadership in strategic sourcing including:
- AB team education
- Industry and conference presentation
- Educational material generation
- White paper / case study facilitation
- Leads remote and on-site meetings with clients and key stakeholders
- Documents, escalates and resolves engagement issues and risks.
- Assists in the development and presentation of client proposals.
- Identifies and develops service add-on opportunities within existing clients.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
What your background should look like
- Desired Background
- PharmD with a license in good standing
- 8-10 years of management experience (multi-site preferred)
- 3 years working hands on with strategic sourcing including 340B and "own use" pharmacy programs
- The following are not required but are a "plus" for candidates
- Health system-based specialty / retail pharmacy experience
- MBA or advanced business degree
- Project management experience or certification
- Lean six-sigma or similar process improvement certification
- Located near a major airport and ability to travel up to 30%

- Highly effective at team management and creating an engaged work environment
- Ability to execute with excellence and drive accountability in a fully remote team
- Highly proficient in program development, process mapping and change management

- Functions as a self-starter and capable of independent work
- Ability to coordinate work across multiple business units / entities (i.e. pharmacy, clinic, payers, central support, health-system leadership, internal teams)
- Experience developing training materials
- Ability to apply observations and recommendations to operational issues, increased productivity, quality, and customer-service standards
- Exhibits strong technical proficiency including the ability to build and manage reporting Excel and business intelligence tools
- Experience working with electronic medical records and retail pharmacy systems
- Strong understanding of the following:
- Outpatient / specialty pharmacy purchasing and class of trade optimization
- 340B program compliance and maximization
- Development of ambulatory clinic support via health system retail pharmacies
- The revenue cycle for retail / specialty pharmacy and the drivers of success
- Industry developments and trends
- Retail, specialty and infusion pharmacy general workflow and key contributors to success
- Navigation within electronic medical records and the chart review process
- Pharmacy finances including profit and loss statements
- Applicable regulatory, compliance and privacy standards

*This Salary Range reflects a National Average for this job. The actual range may vary based on your locale. Ranges in Colorado/California/Washington State-specific locations may be up to 10% lower than the minimum salary range, and 12% higher than the maximum salary range.
