Position Announcement

The Library at Utah Tech University in St. George, Utah, invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Librarian faculty position, responsible for public services including interlibrary loan, circulation, and course reserves. The Public Services Librarian performs a variety of oversight, supervision, and operational management duties requiring substantial knowledge of various library systems and procedures to provide access to collections, process library materials, and assist patrons in the use of library resources. This highly visible position operates in a busy environment and involves actively assisting users and monitoring multiple library functions. The Public Services Librarian will also provide reference services that enhance the students' academic needs and will provide instruction and materials for liaison areas as needed. Responsibilities

  • Provides supervision of day-to-day activities and strategic vision through goals and leadership within the public services department.
  • Proposes, implements, and evaluates current services through usage statistics, as well as recommends innovative services and enhancements for public services.
  • Provides leadership for full-time & part-time staff members, as well as student employees.
  • Supervises and oversees scheduling of full- and part-time staff.
  • Works with faculty in academic departments (liaison) to develop materials, order materials, and give research and bibliographic instruction to students.
  • Provides reference services both in-person and chat/online.
  • Fulfills other duties as assigned, including additional committee work at the institutional level as well as with the library consortium.

Qualifications

  • Required (minimum qualifications)

    • Master's degree in Library Sciences from an Institution accredited by the American Library Association.
    • Supervisory experience leading, developing, and managing staff.
    • Experience teaching research methods, information literacy, bibliographic and library instruction sessions to students and other patrons in one-on-one, classroom, and/or distance mediated instructional settings.
    • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
    • Ability to exercise critical human relations skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with library colleagues, students, faculty, staff, other libraries, other agencies, and the public.
    • Strong technology skills and experience with a variety of online databases and resources.
    • Ability to work in a team environment.
    • Demonstrated leadership and skills in project management.
  • Preferred

    • At least three (3) years professional librarian experience.
    • Experience working within a public/access services department in a library.
    • Experience working with library users of diverse ages, as well as from various socioeconomic, cultural and academic backgrounds.
    • Experience or familiarity with learning management systems (Canvas, Blackboard, Moodle, etc.).
    • Familiarity with current national initiatives, methods, and standards such as IPEDS, ARL/ACRL statistics surveys, ACRL Standards for Libraries in Higher Education, etc.

    POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Full-time (12-month) tenure-track Librarian faculty position. Faculty service, as well as pay and benefits, begins Fall semester 2023. Annual salary of $56,000+ depending on qualifications & experience.
