Senior Controls System Engineer

Job Purpose

You will be leading the design, development and validation of application software for commercial electric vehicle powertrains. Your tasks will include but not limited to understanding internal and customer request/requirements for functionality performance, diagnostics, safety, and design the specific system to meet these requirements. Decompose requirements from the ePowertrain system level to drive line control unit level requirements, develop controls based on requirements, implement, and integrate control logic into production controls software and support validation activities as required. Design and conduct test cases for assessment of controls in different environments such as Dyno, HIL, or in vehicle. Your workplace will be very dynamic and fast-paced.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Participate in development and validation of electrified powertrain controls for commercial vehicle EV applications and different architectures.
  • Provide technical analysis in a project team environment.
  • Review system requirements and decompose requirements to software and design requirements.
  • Work with V&V engineers to evaluate test case for performance/functionality of powertrain system in different environment such as Dyno, HIL, or vehicle.
  • Support internal/external request to analyze data from driving events for performance, issues, etc.
  • Responsible for delivering application software and system integration for complex automotive embedded controllers used in safety critical systems for electrified powertrains. With a focus on understanding complete powertrain architecture, interfaces, and transmission control.
  • Mentor junior engineers in control theory, software processes, production code development.



EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS



  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, Computer Science, Control Systems or related field
  • 5+ years of experience of in powertrain (engine, transmission, or hybrid)
  • Ideal candidate would have 1 year of experience in electrified powertrain systems
  • 2 years of experience in production programs and direct customer interfacing preferred.
  • Experience in the automotive industry; focus on controls and software development.
  • Knowledge with Dyno setups and dyno control.
  • Knowledge or Experience with dSPACE Scalexio HIL systems.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to build relationships with all functions and levels across the organization.
  • Willing to travel up to 10% within the U.S. and potentially internationally for development testing and customer work site visits.


SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES



  • Expert MATLAB and Simulink knowledge.
  • Strong experience of algorithm design & implementation in model-based environment using MATLAB, Simulink.
  • Proven record of eliciting and implementing requirements from design to production in formal requirement management tools.
  • Accountable for application software development in all current and future products brought to market.
  • Supporting engineers and external stakeholders engaged in program and project work.
  • Evidence of progressive responsibility and hands-on experience with vehicle system architectures and control system applications.
  • Extensive experience in validation / verification / test programs for embedded systems to ensure designs are fit for purpose; including Functional Safety aspects.
  • Familiarity with different CAN protocols such as J1939, CAN standard, UDS, etc.
  • Familiarity with calibration tools such as CANape, INCA, ControlDesk, ATI, etc.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work with people at all levels within and outside Dana in a professional manner.
  • Ability to multi-task effectively on projects and assignments.
  • Ability to work effectively to meet deadlines and goals.
  • A team player, who is both flexible and creative in their approach to problem-solving.
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills required in English.
