Description:

The Associate Director will assist in the development, implementation, coordination, and assessment of cultural programs, education programs, student and community outreach for the Center specific to the mission of the AACC – to support Black student success at UIC and promote a campus-wide understanding of Black diasporic cultures and histories. Salary range is $50,000 - $60,000.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Black Student Belonging

◦ Develop innovative and engaging programs and events that support Black student experiences.

◦ Support and deepen the Center’s relationships with Black student organizations.

◦ Develop and implement programming in collaboration with Black student organizations.

◦ Collaborate on programs with other units on campus (or, when relevant, in the UI system) that support Black cultural programming, intercultural exchange, and Black student success.

◦ Coordinate the annual Black Student Leadership Summit

Internship Supervision

◦ Serve as supervisor for AACC internship programs, which provide undergraduate students with opportunities for service learning, cultural program development, leadership development, and community engagement

◦ With the Program Director, coordinate the recruitment, hiring, training and evaluation of student staff.

◦ Provide professional skills development opportunities for interns and student workers.

Community Outreach

◦ With AACC Director and Program Director, develop and maintain a calendar of community outreach programs, activities, workshops, exhibitions, etc.

◦ With Program Director, prepare an annual budget for community outreach activities.

◦ Strengthen relationships with community partners.

◦ Educate student interns on responsibilities of community partnership.

Assessment and Evaluation

◦ Develop assessment tools that facilitate the ongoing evaluation of programs and activities.

◦ With AACC staff, assess the marketing and promotion of the Center’s programs.

◦ Prepare accurate records and assessment of community outreach effectiveness.

Perform other duties as assigned or required.

Qualifications:

1. Bachelor’s degree.
2. A total of three (3) years (36 months) in education, training and/or work experience in the area of specialization inherent to the position. (Note: Master’s Degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1) year of work experience.
3. Demonstrated experience creating inclusive student-centered programming.
4. Professional experience spearheading the development of Black cultural programs.
5. Demonstrated professional experience with community outreach.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree in education, student services administration, Black or Diasporic Studies, Museum Exhibition, or field related to Black student support or Black diasporic cultural studies.
