Summary

Identify, implement, and administer quality functions to ensure product quality and conformance to customer and industry specifications.

Essential Functions

  • Review processes (internal or supplier) for quality conformance issues, to identify improvement opportunities. Facilitate or lead improvement activities.
  • Perform analysis of quality data to identify defect causes. Investigate root causes of issues and implement improvement plans.
  • Assist in establishing and maintaining internal or external specifications and technical data sheets.
  • Assure conformance with division's ISO quality management system. Conduct quality system audits.
  • Assist with the product development design process by identifying and communicating specifications. May propose and qualify suppliers.
  • Provide engineering assistance to internal teams or external customers.
  • Keep abreast of new developments in the fields of engineering, methods, and applications.
  • For positions in supplier quality, may negotiate price and contracts for high dollar volume purchasing.
  • Has knowledge and skills in the engineering discipline.
  • Uses prescribed techniques and procedures within established criteria.
  • Tasks are well-defined.
  • Performs technical work that does not require previous experience.
  • Works independently, as well as with a team.
  • Work is performed under supervision.

Qualifications

  • Entry level or early career engineer with Bachelors' degree or Master's degree in engineering field - Or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of an internship in related field is preferred.
  • Specific skills, proficiencies, and knowledge in field related to position, as identified by department leadership.
  • Understanding of ISO principles and manufacturing processes are preferred.
  • Knowledge of quality assurance techniques is preferred - such as APQP or PPAP.
  • In supplier quality positions - knowledge of procurement, strategy, and market drivers.
  • Depending on position, a professional certification in quality assurance may be required (CQE, PE), or obtained in a reasonable timeframe.
  • High level of customer service skills.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing techniques is preferred.
  • Well-developed problem analysis and problem solving techniques.
  • Proficiency with a computer, including use of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Team player who is self-motivated, and has ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with team members and leadership staff.
  • Travel may be necessary, based on position.
  • US Citizenship may be required, based on position.
