Position Summary

This position develops partnerships with private and public sector sponsors via the Energy Resource Center to secure research funding and complete research projects. Through the use of energy assessments and technical/financial analyses, employee is responsible for identifying practical answers to energy and environmental problems in industrial, commercial, institutional and residential markets.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Collaboratively generate/develop energy and environmental research ideas and convert into fundable projects. Participate in the planning, development, and implementation of projects (energy efficiency, energy use, energy conversion, energy storage, emission reduction).
  • Identify underserved markets and untapped consumers in need of technical education and/or assistance in energy matters.
  • Develop relationships with private and public organizations to improve the efficient use of energy and emission reductions in the industrial, commercial and institutional market sectors.
  • Conduct energy assessments and on-site consultation and evaluation for clients, identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce energy costs. Apply advanced engineering principles to specific energy and/or environmental research tasks (analysis, technical writing, independent technical research and independent judgment). Collect and analyze data and present analysis to clientele both verbally and in writing.
  • Lead energy projects by developing project plan, determining scope of project, establishing timelines, calculating cost structure of project, carrying out project tasks, computing energy savings, and delivering results on time and within cost. Compose technical writing components in proposals, document research results, prepare reports and project deliverables.
  • Cooperate with interdisciplinary project members as an energy expert providing technical ideas, knowledge and writing capabilities to develop new programs, insuring energy efficiency and environmental stewardship principles are included.
  • Conduct independent and group research under the direction and guidance of senior engineering staff.
  • Staff Management: train student engineers in energy efficiency technologies, energy instrumentation use, and field assessment procedures. Oversee and advise student engineer data collection and analysis work. Review, edit and finalize project deliverables produced by student engineers.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering, Architecture, or related field is required.
  • Excellent communication and technical writing skills. Ability to work independently and in team environments.
  • In depth working knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and some knowledge of energy software tools.
