Nature of Work: This is skilled journey level work involving the installation and maintenance of equipment at the municipal wastewater treatment plants, flood levee, and pump stations. Employees in this class perform major and minor installation and maintenance and may be assigned as lead workers on larger, more difficult projects.

Education and Experience: (The knowledge, skills, and abilities may be acquired through, but are not limited to, the following combination of education and/or experience.) * High school diploma or its equivalent preferred AND Four (4) years of experience in at least two of the following areas: Pumps and motors, hydraulics, or pneumatics AND Responsible experience in the maintenance of equipment found in wastewater treatment facilities, levees, and pump stations.

Special Qualifications: Must possess and maintain a valid motor vehicle operators license from the time of appointment. Must possess a forklift operators permit by the end of the probationary period.

Pay Range: $27.33 with step increases to $31.12/Hourly

Examination Information: The multiple-choice/written examination will be on TBD at the Omaha/Douglas Civic Center, 1819 Farnam Street. An invitation via email to the exam will be given to candidates once their application has been received, reviewed by a recruiter, and accepted to the test for the position. The test is designed to assess knowledge of the job, skills, and abilities of this position. The passing score on the examination is 60%. This will be weighted 100% in the final score.

Veteran Points: To claim five (5) points for veteran's preference, you must submit proof of service (such as a DD-214) that includes date of induction, date of honorable separation, and Social Security number. (You must have completed more than 180 consecutive days of active duty.) To receive an additional five (5) points credit for disability, you must submit proof of eligibility from the United States Department of Veterans Affairs dated within the last 12 months. This information must be submitted to the Human Resources Department by 6/21/2023.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

* Knowledge of and ability to operate a computer or other technology using standard or customized computer or systems software applications appropriate to the assigned tasks
* Knowledge of the machinery and equipment operations used in wastewater treatment, flood levee, and pump stations
* Knowledge of purchasing procedures and parts, materials, and supply acquisition
* Skill in performing installation, and maintenance activities on mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic equipment
* Skill in the operation of the assigned tools and equipment
* Ability to read and interpret technical materials, schematics, and blueprints of mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic designs
* Ability to prepare reports, complete work orders and other forms, and maintain records
* Ability to understand oral and written instructions
* Ability to adhere to safety policies, procedures, and guidelines
* Ability to learn and adapt to advances in computer and electronics device technology and software
* Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and members of the general public

Essential Functions: (Any one position may not perform all of the duties listed, nor do the listed examples include all of the duties that may be performed in positions allocated to this class.)

* Inspects and diagnoses sources of malfunctions in hydraulic, pneumatic and mechanical equipment and determines whether to repair or replace parts and equipment
* Installs, repairs, and maintains wastewater and flood control systems and related equipment, such as belt filter systems, pumps, heaters, motors, augers, compressors, mechanical power transmission equipment, plumbing, hydraulic hose, cylinders, and valves
* Welds broken or worn parts such as shafts, sprockets, and flight shoes
* Performs regular preventive maintenance on hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical equipment
* Reads and interprets mechanical drawings, schematics, and blueprints of mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic designs
* Prepares daily reports, completes work orders, and maintains preventive maintenance records
* Initiates purchase requisitions and secures repair parts and materials; contacts vendors, sales people, and contractors as needed to attain pricing, availability, and order status
* Maintains the facilities, cuts grass and weeds, breaks up and removes old concrete, mixes and pours new concrete, and repairs or replaces doors, windows, and railings
* Maintains regular job attendance in accordance with a schedule established for the position by the supervisor
* Performs other related duties as assigned or as the situation dictates within the scope of this classification
