Covenant Health is seeking a On Call / Per Diem, Day Shift Licensed Vocational Nurse for MS General Medicine Department at Covenant Levelland.

Job Summary:

Administers nursing care to patients within an assigned unit. Supervises non-licensed nursing personnel. Under the direct supervision of a registered nurse.

Essential Functions:



  • Demonstrates the ability to transfer scientific knowledge from social, biological, and physical sciences in applying the nursing process.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and competency in performing baseline nursing skills. Maintains clinical competencies according to departmental standards.
  • Under supervision of the RN, identifies information necessary to plan and administer care.
  • Identifies and determines priority of the patients needs/problems, anticipates emergencies, complications of pathology, and assists others in implementing complex care.
  • Administers all medications and treatments according to hospital policy and procedure, accepted standards of care, and unit guidelines.
  • Communicates effectively with the RN, patients, families, and physicians. Documenting patient status, patient needs/problems, nursing intervention/patient response, safety interventions, and education/teaching.
  • Assists the RN in the development of a plan of care that includes discharge planning, realistic and measurable goals, and appropriate nursing interventions to produce desired outcomes with the patients.
  • Maintains a safe work environment by adhering to JCAHO and other regulatory requirements. Reports untoward incidents per hospital policy.
  • Maintains a committed and cooperative attitude with staffing, promoting teamwork and harmony by readily assisting other staff and patients without being asked to do so.


Minimum Position Qualification:

Education:



  • Graduate of an accredited licensed vocational school of nursing.
  • Heart Failure Clinic (HC6): Annual education on current concepts in management of Heart Failure.


Experience: Cardiac Cath Lab Holding Area: 1 year experience as an LVN in a Critical Care area.

License / Certifications:



  • Current Texas L.V.N. license required or a new graduate that meets the criteria to sit for the NCLEX examination and become licensed in the state of Texas or approved compact State for LVN
  • BLS (AHA) certification within 30 days of employment.
  • ACLS within 1 year
