We are looking for a dynamic and passionate Histology Technologist to join our team!


Responsibilities

What You'll Do

The Histology Technologist is responsible for abiding by applicable federal regulatory agency requirements. The responsibilities and requirements relate to the required knowledge of embedding, microtomy and maintaining the equipment under the direction of the pathologist or designee. The position will also perform specimen grossing of surgically removed tissue under the supervision of the Pathologist. This job description reflects the essential function of the position and is not to be assumed that the principle functions are the only duties to be performed. Other duties will arise and must be carried out as assigned to meet quality standards expected for patient care. All duties performed will be within the guidelines set forth by regulatory agencies to maintain, manage and assure specimen integrity. The successful candidate will be able to:

  • Performs specimen fixation, embedding, microtomy, staining, and IHC analysis within scope of practice, training and skills . Logs appropriate information into the laboratory information system.
  • Follows and maintains competency on policies and standard operating procedures
  • Adheres to laboratory procedures for specimen collection, handling and processing, analyses, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results. Evaluates specimens and test requests for appropriateness.
  • Adheres to the laboratory's quality control policies, documents all quality control activities
  • Be capable of identifying issues that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and correct the identified issue
  • Maintains equipment in proper working order

Qualifications

What You'll Bring

  • An earned associates degree in laboratory science or medical laboratory technology, obtained from an accredited institution , OR Education /training equivalent to the above that includes at least 60 sememster hours or equivalent from an accredited institution. This education must include 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses, OR 24 semester hours of science courses that include 6 semester hours of biology, and 12 semester hours of chemistry, biology or medical laboratory technology in any combination.
  • Six months experience as histotech preferred.
  • Must possess good writing and verbal skills
