Compensation and Benefits

Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $10,834 - $13,334 per month

Full CSU Classification Salary Range: $6,250 - $20,063 per month

Salary is competitive and negotiable depending on the strength of qualifications. This is a CSU Management Personnel Plan (MPP) position.

The CSU system provides a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision plans, membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), sick and vacation time, and 15 paid holidays a year. Job Summary

Reporting to the Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management, the Associate Vice President (AVP) for Student Success Services and University Advising Services will collaborate with colleagues in the divisions of Academic Affairs and Student Affairs and Enrollment Management as well as campus leaders across other divisions. The AVP for Student Success Services and University Advising Services provides vision and strategic leadership and management to services, initiatives, and programs that focus on improving student retention and persistence throughout the student lifecycle, from enrollment and orientation to timely degree completion. The AVP for Student Success Services and University Advising Services works closely and collaboratively with a team of directors to intentionally provide a broad base of academic advising and student support programs, services, and other opportunities to maximize students' personal development and academic achievement, resulting in degree completion and career success.

The new AVP for Student Success Services and University Advising Services will join Dr. Willis in reviewing the current organizational structure of Student Success Services and University Advising to realign unit-level leadership and organizational structure to meet new university and divisional priorities. The AVP for Student Success Services and University Advising Services provides leadership and oversight to the directors of the following departments and their staff: University Advising Center; Office of New Student and Family Programs; Bulldog Connect; Student Support Services Program & Student Support Services Veterans Program; College Assistance Migrant Program; Career Development Center; Learning Center; Educational Opportunity Program (Renaissance Scholars Program, Dream Success Center, Office of Black Student Success) ( studentaffairs.fresnostate.edu/about/orgchart.html).

This position requires a leader who brings an understanding of the unique needs of the diverse student population at Fresno State and will be a compassionate champion for its students. The university seeks an AVP for Student Success Services and University Advising Services who will create a culture of care for its students and divisional staff and uphold Fresno State's "Principles of Community". The ideal candidate will be innovative in their solutions and approaches and will work very closely with team members to support existing programs while also generating new ideas to foster enhanced opportunities for students, remove barriers, and expand high-impact practices.

The new AVP for Student Success Services and University Advising Services will need to demonstrate an inclusive and equitable approach as part of a facilitative leadership style that inspires and empowers professional staff, encourages open communication and collaboration across campus, and solicits new ideas from various stakeholders. This new leader will provide vision and work with a strong student success team to develop and execute strategies to enhance the student experience. The successful candidate will also set priorities with finite resources and effectively plan and manage the financial resources and staffing of the student success programs to meet current needs while allowing for the attainment of strategic initiatives. This will include working in collaboration with the individual schools and divisions to improve communications and processes and increase the overall engagement of the campus community.

The ideal candidate will work with divisional staff to review existing programs, policies, and procedures and provide innovative solutions to ensure comprehensive support services for student success. Working closely with Academic Affairs and the individual college advising centers, the AVP for Student Success Services and University Advising Services-serving as the subject matter expert-will be charged with integrating, aligning, and ensuring coordination of all advising initiatives across the university.

Key Qualifications
  • Directly supervise and evaluate assigned directors, coordinators, and staff.
  • Provide strong, dynamic academic and administrative leadership that fosters a collegial work environment across the campus and with the community.
  • Develop and implement services, programs, activities, and strategies that build a sense of belonging and facilitate a successful transition to and engagement in the college experience to increase student retention, persistence, and graduation rates.
  • Provide leadership efforts to develop policies and practices that enhance student experience and promote student involvement and engagement.
  • Find innovative ways to increase student access to and participation with high-impact practices proven to increase course completion rates, retention rates, and overall student success.
  • Play a critical role in student advocacy, leadership, staff development, strategic planning, assessment and in advancing the strategic plan, goals, and objectives in the Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management.
  • Plan, prepare, and effectively manage budget resources for reporting programs and departments.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive student success assessment plan to improve student persistence and graduation rates for reporting programs and services.
  • Develop, support, and implement innovative programs and strategies to achieve Graduation Initiative 2025 goals, and beyond.
  • Compile reports detailing relevant and useful findings from research and analysis of data, and make recommendations for continuous improvement of student success initiatives, services, and programs.
  • Ensure efficient and effective communication of information related to student success throughout the university.
  • Serve as a partner to Academic Affairs and other key stakeholders in the research, development, and implementation of best practice strategies to improve student achievement, retention, and success.
  • Serve on the Executive Student Success Team, Academic Advising Committee, Enrollment Services Committee, and other relevant committees.
  • Represent the university and division at system, state, and national meetings as assigned by the VPSAEM.

Education and Experience
  • Master's degree from an accredited institution of higher education.
  • Minimum five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in an administrative role that successfully demonstrates management of and fiscal responsibility for student support programs and/or advising, including supervision of program development and evaluation.

The Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management manages various innovative programs and services, providing resources that support students' personal and academic success and align with the University's mission to educate and empower students for success boldly. Focus is placed on promoting transformative educational experiences that enhance teaching and learning through best practices, innovative programs, and high-impact experiences that attract talented and diverse students and contribute to retention, deep learning, and the development of the whole student for lifelong success. The Division comprises student services offices and programs, including enrollment, campus discipline, academic advising, migrant services, student activities, and the student unions on campus.
