Technical Advisor

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Technical Advisor will work directly with firm Partners to assess cutting-edge inventions and offer quantitative evaluation services to our clients and to firm management. This position is an exciting opportunity to gain experience working in a client-services industry on a wide array of matters involving different industries and global markets. This is an entry level position that does not require legal training or passage of the Patent Bar exam.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Evaluate patents and associated technology, and report to attorneys features of inventions and other scientific matters
  • Analyze issues of patentability, validity, freedom to operate, and infringement, and prepare claim charts to support patent litigation
  • Analyze scientific or technical documents, including previously published patent documents, to assess issues of validity and infringement
  • Perform technical review and citation checking of expert reports and legal briefs in patent litigation
  • Maintain knowledge of specific client requirements and needs for filing
  • Maintain file integrity and assist in prioritizing workload and monitoring compliance with due dates

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in biology, cell physiology/biophysics, chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology, or a comparable life sciences field is required
  • 2 + years of relevant experience in the life sciences field OR an advanced technical degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) required

COMPETENCIES:

  • Ability to effectively communicate, both orally and in writing, with attorneys, professional staff, clients, and external contacts
  • Ability to independently organize and prioritize a heavy workload in a dynamic and complex environment to meet deadlines and daily requirements, while maintaining exceptional accuracy
  • Ability to use technical experience and expertise for data analysis to support recommendations
  • Maintain a continuous improvement mindset and ask the right questions that challenge and improve the quality of recommendations and outcomes
  • Ability to quickly become familiar with new areas of biotechnology
